Such a thing as too many guns?

When you ACCIDENTLY begin to use your guns as structural support for your house, then you have too many guns.

"Honey, why is there a two-by-four in the gun safe and a gun-shaped bulge in the wall?"

"um.... ooops."

Six is the MINIMUM needed for a responsible gun owner.

A .22 Rifle
a Riot shotgun
A Sniper rifle
a Battle Rifle
A standard Concealed Carry handgun.
EITHER A tactical handgun OR an Elephant rifle. (depending on situation)

obviously, more would be better.

I have a quite sizeable collection and I enjoy it, but it does get to be a pain to store them, clean them, make sure they are not rusting, inventory them, ect. If I had to do it all again, I would have acquired a few basic utility pieces and some very expensive guns such as a SIG P210 and a HK P7 instead of like 10-15 9x19 autos ranging from a Helwan to Rugers and SIG Sauers.

I'd of not got involved with collecting milsurp rifles either. It is easy to amass them due to low cost, but specialized areas get pricey and storage of them hard due to taking up much safe room due to length.

To be honest with you guys I do feel like I brought too many guns this year since I brought five of them.

Right now I don't have a place to shoot rifles and don't even have a car. So the two rifles I have are kinda useless. Besides I wither have an SKS or AK instead of an M1 carbine. Ammo is cheap plus I would have an easyer time selling them if I needed money real bad for some reason.

Now if I didn't get into some legal trouble 9 years old and if I went to the trouble of getting my gun rights back sooner, then I would have way more then six guns...

There is such a thing as too many for me. I love all kinds of guns but sometimes it just gets to be too much to manage. Since my interests change anyhow it doesn't hurt me any to rotate guns in and out of my collection. Although I can leave extra guns with at my parents house between movings (I am sort of a "drifter") I prefer to keep my collection at a small enough number that I can take them all with me when I have to. I generally keep it around 4 handguns, maybe 5 or so rifles, a couple shotguns and a couple rimfire rifles. That is enough for me. Anything more than that gets a little messy.

If I had to cut it down to six it would be:
Rimfire rifle (CZ-452)
Concealable handgun for CCW (Kahr P-9 in my case)
Mid size or full size handgun (SIG P-225 but thinking about eventually going Glock 23)
12 gauge pump action shotgun (Mossberg 500A with 18" barrel)
Full power rifle (FAL)
Another full power rifle (Either another FAL or my M-39. I love both so it would be a hard choice.)

I wouldn't want to be put in a position where I HAD to sell any off though. And if we could bump the number up to 9 or 10 that would be better.

Some idiots do not understand the concept of a "hobby."

People with one gun are much more likely to commit a crime with it than someone who owns 100 guns. Not too many criminals have a collection of that size.

Now, in terms of fiscal responsibility, there may be "too many guns" - but that's a matter for your personal finances ... ;)

No such thing

I'm at the point that I'm buying guns just to buy them. I just bought a couple Colt's (Pocket Nine and a Mustang) with no intention of ever shooting them, I just wanted them.

It all about what makes you happy!

I keep trying to thin the herd. Some I have absolutely no use for....a bolt action 20 ga shotgun, a 16 ga semiauto shotgun, a Santa Fe 1903a3 with a bubba'd stock, a 1917 Colt .45acp revo, a S&W 659 that I can't get rid of in CA because it has 'hi-cap' mags  a P38 from WWII, etc.

Nonetheless I keep thinking about that next rifle.....should it be another .308 or a 30-06? Then there's the CZ550FS in 6.5 Swede......

I think I may have to many guns.

Won't keep me from buying more though. :D

If I can just find another spot for another gun safe that will help.

I mention yestiday to a friend at work that there a few more guns I would like to have. He told me that 6 guns is enough and in fact too many, and why would I want more.

Six guns is enough.

The almighty work friend has decreed it!

.

Ur work buddy is right.....

6 guns per caliber for a sidearm and 6 for a long gun is more than enough. 6 9mm in pistol and 6 in rifle, 6 in .40 cal handgun and 6 in rifle, etc... and so on. Don't disagree, agree with him just don't tell him. My belief is do not discuss, politics, religion or our constutional rights to bear arms in any conversation. It is ok to disagree.

With the sales of those firearms, I either bought BETTER ones, or more ammo! I'm not sure if anyone can have "too much" ammo!
Well, I'd say that if you can't get up in the middle of the night to pee, because you may step on the 7.62 NATO cartridges encroaching upon the bathroom, I'd say you might have "too much ammo." Other than that I'd say meh, doubtful.
