I'm looking for suggestions on a low priced .22LR or Mag for CCW. Just would like a comfortable pocket carry....

Don't.

You are not going to find one smaller and lighter than the Kel-Tec P3AT or Ruger LCP and these are in a caliber at least marginally adequate for self-defense.

You can still get the Kel-Tec P32 if recoil is a serious issue for you.

I appreciate the sentiment on what is/is not acceptable for caliber re:CCW. I'm not looking for that kind of info. I really am looking for .22LR or Mag suggestions by those with CCW experience.

I personally wouldn't carry a .22 anything for CCW, I would go .32 absolutely as the smallest caliber, but I would personally carry a small 9mm or .380.

Berretta or Taurus

The little tip up models have a good reputation for reliablity.
I have shot my Minx enough to know it will go bang reliably. The tip up barrel helps if you fingers arn't strong enough to rack the slide as on other small pistols.
Only issue is the lack of a extractor can make unloading a chambered round a hassle.
I have owned other pocket pistols that were less reliable.

Again, behind the lines experience in Vietnam convinced me that a .22LR is certainly acceptable.

BTW, I'm only interested in autoloader versions

Thanks Earplug. I was looking at the tip up Taurus models, but have not spoken/chatted with anyone that had experience with them. I will have to check out the Berretta models....

The Beretta 22 isn't a bad blowback design 0 it can have issues with different ammunition. That said, it IS the same size as a 32 or 380 pistol. The smallest I have shot is the NAA mini, it is good to about 6-10 feet as far as accuracy is concerned - more so a last ditch belly gun - they used to have belt buckles for them so you could wear them like a big cowboy buckle, but those are revolvers.

Then there is the 22 mag derringers.........

The only option I would use, and only if I were FORCED to do so by some bizarre set of circumstances, would be my 1911 .22 lr conversion kit. I have 1 10 rd, and three 15 rd magazines. I would empty ALL of them, loaded with stingers, COM as rapidly as possible.

I would look seriously at the Beretta's, possibly a S&W 21A.

The 22mag would be my choice, but probably have to go
with a revolver to get that.

Good luck in your search.

I appreciate the comment about the 1911 conversion, but that defeats the purpose. That's a good choice for the range at today's ammo prices anyways :)

Anyone that has ever been involved in a close quarters military or self defense scenario understands that you don't need a cannon to get the job done.

No, but it sure helps. And I'd hardly call a < 10oz .380 a "cannon"

Beretta model 21-A in 22 LR ... I picked up a used stainless one that runs smooth on CCIs and Remington Golden bullets. Kinda pricey, but the best I know of in an autoloading pocket pistol. Their .25 autos would/should be more reliable due to the center fire cartridge ... I have a couple of those as well ... ;)

op: Do you happen to be a Sergeant of a three-man Rapid Tactical Force at one of America’s largest indoor retail shopping areas? You can let me know in secret code (please encrypt) if you can't say anything in public..I understand. Over and out.

With such an established pedigree of real-life experience behind you, why are you even deigning to ask us for advice?

A .22 in a pocket gun is no more effective (LOL) than a .25 acp. It's even worse, actually, because the rim of the .22 creates additional opportunity for jamming.

Just get a Raven and be done with it.

To answer your question...
WaltherP22.jpg

I bought this for my daughter to shoot. I hated it. The damn thing wouldn't get through 1 mag without jamming. Then as if by magic, it became totally reliable after break in with mini-mags. I can put 10 in a silver dollar at 7 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger. Hasn't jammed in the last 2000 rounds.
Doesn't weigh anything and will fit in my pocket.

I would have to agree with ShadyScott. The P22 is a good choice. If it is a little large, then I would suggest the Beretta Bobcat. I can't stand the damn thing, as my hands are quite large, but to each his own.

The P22 is a good choice. If it is a little large...
Seeing as how it's larger in every possible dimension than a whole host of .380s...
What was the point of using a .22 again? Ammo cost?

I think you got it. You just didn't like it.

Suggestions for CCW .22LR

If it has be a .22 & cheap look at one of these: Iver Johnson TP-22 pistol

There is a new in the box on GB for 185.00 and they aren't a bad .22. Just a copy of a Walther but cheaper. You might also want to look at a Bersa if you can find one with a short barrel.

Not quite sure why so many feel it necessary to criticize and ridicule over another's choices or preferences. Silly little comments about mall security, etc are really quite unecessary. My experience was not the point of this post, I was merely looking for actual experience from those who own this type of gun. Grow up fellas.
