Swivel studs for Ruger 10/22 Liberty Training Rifle

Can someone help me with the swivel studs for the ruger 10/22? Appleseed recommends Uncle Mike's 115 B, however, that set includes a machine screw for the forend. Why a machine screw and not a wood screw?

It probably also has a knurled nut that recesses into the inside barrel channel.
Drill a small hole matching the machine screw size from the outside at your chosen position then from the inside counter bore a hole to the depth needed to flush up (+ a little) the round nut. When you screw the stud in check and make sure it doesn't make contact with the barrel, if so take it out and file the end down till it fits.
