I have bought a few things in there. The prices are not great, but I try to support our local gunshops. Not again, this guys an idiot if he thinks his statement was nothing more than trying to improve his bottom line. He saw $ when he made those statements.

I wonder how many other local gun shop that have high ammo prices (like the one near me) are thinking such a ban would be very profitable for them. More than they'd admit, I bet.

"My opinion on the online sales ban was clearly made out of being uneducated in the way that laws are passed."

Exactly what does the ways laws are passed have to do with his obvious statement that supports an online ammo ban and what would amount to ammo registration? He knew exactly what he was saying and his motives equate to nothing but him being a profit whore at all costs, he is obviously the type of person who believes everything is all about him.

I wish I lived closer so I could boycott his place of business and try to get the news media to show up, he received his 5 minutes of fame, it is time to show people exactly how law abiding citizens feel about his selling his soul for profits, people like him disgust me......................

So, the "largest Class III dealer in the US" had no idea how popular buying ammo online is for serious shooters.

Bingo!!
The explanation for his support of the Lautenberg proposal fails the smell test.

After the phone call I made their a few months ago I have a hard time believing he is the largest Class III dealer in the US, but maybe I was just unlucky as to who answered the phone. I never planned on going there after that, and I sure don't now. Even going to be in Katy tomorrow too.
Like the previous posters, I'm not buying his excuse. As usual, It's all about the money.

Sorry, don't buy it. The damage is already done. You can't make a statement as damning and powerful as that and then claim ignorance and misunderstanding because the antis will only play the parts they want out of it, never the apologies. A message needs to be sent to this company saying this is unnaceptable and if his business tanks then it tanks, we can always apologize to him later, right?

You find the same reaction when states want to eliminate permits for concealed carry and outlaw lead bullets.
Didn't AZ have a bunch of instructors riding on the "it will be a bloodbath if they aren't trained" bandwagon when they dropped their requirements for concealed carry?
I think I heard some bullet companys that made "non lead bullets" get in line with CA when they were banning lead bullets for hunting as well.

Wow, his attempt to "right the wrong" didn't do anything for me except answer the question "Could a sucessfull dealer really be that foolish?"

I Got A Response

David,

First, I want to get it out there that I DO NOT support an ammo sales ban. I am never comfortable with any idea that puts “firearms” or any “firearms related item” and “ban” in the same sentence. I am not a traitor to the 2nd Amendment. I believe all law abiding citizens should be able to possess as many firearms as they want. Fear is used as a tactic regularly and after the most recent scare with the UN Treaty, I must admit that I felt threatened. Threatened that they would sign something into law that banned firearms and this ammo deal seemed like an easy compromise. Here, have the ammo deal but keep your eyes off of my guns.

My opinion on the online sales ban was clearly made out of being uneducated in the way that laws are passed. I honestly did not see an issue with banning online sales of ammo. I have never purchased ammo online, even before I opened this store 2 years ago, so I really didn’t think stopping online sales would be a big deal. I said “if you give them an inch, they will take a mile” and I truly did not believe that this was giving them anything. The phone calls and emails that I have received have told me a completely different story. The outraged citizens that heard my radio interview and took the time to call or email to voice their opinion, also took the time to talk to me, to explain to me where I am missing the point. I had no idea how passing something into law works and how allowing online sales to be banned opens the door for that law to be amended to change the type of ammo, or the amount, or caliber… the list goes on and on.

When the comments and emails started coming in after the interview I definitely did not understand the anger. Some people claimed my statement was based on greed, based on profit- and this is absolutely not the case. My prices are competitive with online pricing and in most cases after shipping I beat online prices. I do not gouge our customers like some have speculated. Tactical Firearms is the largest class III dealer in the US, 1 of 3 master distributors of Fiocchi Ammunition, and I strive to offer the best customer service to everyone that walks through the doors. My business runs on volume and the prices are set to drive that volume. My opinion was not formed from fear of competition but the lack of experience with purchasing ammo online and the lack of knowledge of politics.

I am all about protecting our rights, including our right to privacy. When they passed the law that requires the Southern states to file multi-rifle reports I upgraded our FFL to become a manufacturer so that, by law, I was not required to file those reports anymore. I was contacted by the ATF and asked if I would please still file them as a courtesy and I let them know that it wasn’t going to happen.

I have posted contact information for our local government on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/tacticalfirearms and urged our customers to contact them and fight for our rights. The idea that anyone believes that I support anything anti-gun is heartbreaking but this experience has certainly opened my eyes and I have learned a lot in these past 24 hours. I see it now. I feel foolish for thinking there was such thing as compromising in this regard. Matt Patrick with 740 AM has invited me back on the show tomorrow morning 8/3/2012 to clear the air.

Emphasis mine.

I think he has the same response for everyone. Looks like the same as his web page.

I guess this is the perfect example of why companies have spokesmen or attorneys do their talking.

Yup... his response is the one he has on his website. This is like writing your congressman, and getting a 'personal' response:
"Dear insert constituent's name,
Thank you for taking the time to share your concern with me. I'm having a 20-yr-old university student intern blow you off with a form letter 'signed' with my xeroxed signature..."
This business doesn't really cater to guys like me (I hunt, not collect ARs, AKs, SBRs, etc.), but he will NEVER see me in his shop, not even if I just happen to be in Katy (as I am occasionally) and need a toilet.

Isn't it amazing how we can more brutal to our "own kind" than any anti group - we need to eliminate these weasels and make them wish they died as a child - from a business standpoint - it is one thing to be profit motivated - no issue there, but to go against everything you supposedly believe in for a few extra sheckels - let him gently sway in the breeze while hanging from his neck - business wise

I've never done business with them, and this situation pretty much assures I never will. Ignorance is an excuse. Quite frankly, someone showing that level of ignorance...and ARROGANCE (pretending he was clueless about online ammo sales, their popularity, and even the basics as to how our government operates) doesn't deserve a penny of my money. When you pander to the enemy while sacrificing those aligned with your cause in the process, your business deserves to feel the impact. He is free to hold whatever opinions he would like to, but to pretend or be surprised that those opinions wouldn't affect business is just silly....Look at the Chik Fil A fiasco.... cooperate opinions carry a real-world cost....

I don't go to Texas, can't own any NFA firearms, but do purchase trainloads of ammo over the internet. Am I missing something here? How can a business owner who must comply with umpteen billon laws regarding all aspects of firearms and legal transfers of such, all the while keeping many records for ATF inspection, and not know the level of internet ammunition sales? Does he think all of us are that dumb?
If nothing else he needs to loose his store, go bankrupt, end up homeless and on welfare, and get divorced just as an example of how a turncoat Torrey should be treated!

This was posted on another site and I am reposting it here. The author explains our loss of the 2nd Amendment in a very simple way.

"Mcrain, hopefully after you read the following you may become a bit enlightened to what has already happened and why we must not and will not give up a single inch to the liberals in this country. From my perspective the 2nd Amendment is not negotiable and Law Dog put it into perspective so even the ignorant can understand what the lefts "common sense" actually means

I hear a lot about "compromise" from your camp ... except, it's not compromise.

Let's say I have this cake. It is a very nice cake, with "GUN RIGHTS" written across the top in lovely floral icing. Along you come and say, "Give me that cake."

I say, "No, it's my cake."

You say, "Let's compromise. Give me half." I respond by asking what I get out of this compromise, and you reply that I get to keep half of my cake.

Okay, we compromise. Let us call this compromise The National Firearms Act of 1934.

There I am with my half of the cake, and you walk back up and say, "Give me that cake."

I say, "No, it's my cake."

You say, "Let's compromise." What do I get out of this compromise? Why, I get to keep half of what's left of the cake I already own.

So, we have your compromise -- let us call this one the Gun Control Act of 1968 -- and I'm left holding what is now just a quarter of my cake.

And I'm sitting in the corner with my quarter piece of cake, and here you come again. You want my cake. Again.

This time you take several bites -- we'll call this compromise the Clinton Executive Orders -- and I'm left with about a tenth of what has always been MY CAKE and you've got nine-tenths of it.

Then we compromised with the Lautenberg Act (nibble, nibble), the HUD/Smith and Wesson agreement (nibble, nibble), the Brady Law (NOM NOM NOM), the School Safety and Law Enforcement Improvement Act (sweet tap-dancing Freyja, my finger!)

I'm left holding crumbs of what was once a large and satisfying cake, and you're standing there with most of MY CAKE, making anime eyes and whining about being "reasonable", and wondering "why we won't compromise".

I'm done with being reasonable, and I'm done with compromise. Nothing about gun control in this country has ever been "reasonable" nor a genuine "compromise".

Tactical firearms can say what they want now. How come tactical firearms didn't retract their statement on camera? Making a statement on your web site after you go on national tv is not a proper retraction.

:scrutiny:
His original statement was never "on camera".
His original statement was never on "national tv".

Sheesh. It's bad enough that he did it on local radio, no need to embellish his stupidity.

Just made my "never buy from" list

Profit before freedom, stupid move guys. I'll NOT forget to tell all 100+ of my shooting buddies and acquaintances about this.

This guy is very short-sighted and not thinking about the future. It's very stupid to alienate and insult your customers.

I'm thinking he just made for a big boost in sales over at Cypress Armory.

Even if it's only a case of foot-in-mouth, he's still managed to gain nothing from the experience. Houston is a sprawling place, about 45 x 45 miles across and parts of 7 counties. His customer base will drive some distance if he gives them a good reason.
