Just picked up a new 18" Remington 870 and want to add a sling and tactical light. Also important is that I am a lefty. I see three options:

(1) dedicated forend light
- switch on wrong side?
- most expensive?
- bezel and bulb compatible with my handheld

(2) side mounted with pressure pad and coil wire
- ambidextrous
- could the coil get hung up in the slide?

(3) simple clamp and use my pistol light
- use my existing pistol light
- durablility?

Your thoughts and suggestions please?

The pumphandle light is ambi, too. you just just hit the switch with your fingers or thumb, depending on which side it's on.

Do not use your pistol light. it doesn't have a battery stop and a shock isolated bezel, and will cease to function rather abruptly after about the third time you fire the gun, as the batteries will slam into the lamp on recoil.

Dont' do the wire thing with a slide action. Like a wire hanger, flexing it over time again and again will be a bad thing.

I have the dedicated light on my Benelli. I know you're a lefty but if you're in my area you are welcome to see if you can work it.

I am also left handed. I have had a Sure-Fire dedicated forend for over 10 years. Great system. In fact once the PD used my shotgun during night qualifications I was given the go ahead to purchase one for each of the deparment shotguns. The only dis-advantaged is the cost but you only buy it once. Also IF cost was not a factor what would you get. The dedicated forend. That answers that question.

Ditto. Surefire Fore end.

Yeah, its expensive. But yeah, its worth it.

BTW, I have used the bare-bones basic model (pressure activated) just fine...I'm sure the one with the momentary-full switch is nice, but I'm also pretty sure that its not worth the money.
