I have a buddy that has a 2d Generation G20 that he is offering to sell to me. It comes with 3 15 round mags, tritium sights, extended mag release, an aftermarket fully supported barrel, and some form of a recoil reduction system. He wants $700 for it. Is it a good deal? To do it, I will have to sell my Springfield Loaded Stainless 1911, I know a guy that will give me $550 for it. Let me know what you think.

If the mags are in good shape, they're worth a total of $300 to $360.

The barrel (if it's halfway decent) probably cost him $150 or more (more like $200 really).

The gun, new, ran about $470 if you got a great deal.

Tritium sights, installed are $70 and up. Even if they're not too bright anymore, they're still steel sights which is worth something.

Ditch the recoil reduction system--it's not required--recoil isn't bad. Maybe you can make a buck off it.

So, you're talking about $850 or so even used.

What will the mags be worth in 12 weeks? --maybe $60.

So, what do you really have? --a $350 used hangun and $60 worth of magazines.

Wait until September 15th. You should be able to buy a NIB G20 and three standard capacity mags for less than $700.

Extended mag release and recoil reduction system?

Sounds like an IPSC race gun. I do wonder what this recoil reduction thing is though. Porting?

15 round mags and nights sights?

Sounds like a combat weapon setup.

Seems he's confused about what his Glock was meant for if you ask me. :)

In 2000 I'd have said take it -- but in 88 days those 15 round mags become worth $20-$30 a pop.

That is something to consider...if the ban doesn't get renewed, mag prices will almost certainly drop.

I would not do the deal personally.

Those mags are going to be worth $15 bucks apeice (if they were new) in September.

The aftermarket barrell is unnecessary. Its a gimmick, like full length guide rods on 1911s. I don't necessarily mind a gimmick, but in the end it really doesnt do much for the money.

Extended mag releases make it easier to accidentally eject the mag from the gun, and I would not want one on a carry gun.

As far the recoil reduction system, I am not sure what he is talking about. Glock 20 recoil isn't bad at all with just the plain recoil spring from the factory. This is another gimmick.

I havent been in the market for G20s in a while, but I think you could get a new one with tritium sites for around $600 pretty easy. In October you should be able to get 4 or 5 full capacity mags for it for another hundred.

I think he thinks too highly of his gun. You never get your money back from customizing a gun, but looks to me like he thinks he can.

I would say $500 is the max I would pay for an altered/customized gun in that condition, regardless of mag capacity. I wouldn't do it...

The gun is not set up as a race gun. We both live in the country and it was set up as a personal defense and country side walking around gun. The barrel was put on so that it could shoot hot and heavy 10mm loads. He is actually selling it to do what I do. I am a 2 platform guy, a super blackhawk for my "country gun" and 1911 for my carry/home defense piece.
