My 36x is just under 3ft at 100 yards. Aim small, miss small, if you are wanting to shoot bug holes from a bench with good rests they are great, less than useful for other stuff.
Target scope .223 bench gun ideas?

I have a couple of the 6-24 Cabelas Covenant scopes and have shot ragged little holes at 100 yards with them. They go on sale for $250 pretty regularly. They aren't a Nightforce or a Leupold but they will hold their own against optics that are twice their price.
The only issue I have is sometimes when you dial, it will take a shot or two to fully settle in, but will get you within .25 MOA. I typically use the christmas tree style reticle to hold so I don't see the need to dial very often.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys I ended up going with a Luepold Vx-3i 6.5x20x40
with the fine duplex reticle that’s what I was really after and at $750 on sale from MidwayUSA it left me money to buy rings bases and more components!
