Tattoos

My brother and I saw a guy with an M1 Garand on his forearm in our favorite breakfast restaurant. The conversation was immediately about guns after that, sort of an instantaneous "comrade-in-arms".......

None about guns specifically. I do have my grandpa's WWII division patch tattooed on my arm.

7th AAF If you were curious. People forget about the Pacific Theatre except for the H Bombs. Remember Quadacanal, Leyte, And Manilla? Alot of people served and died in the jungles and beaches too.

I dedicate this post go the honor of all out war veterans. Thank you for all you have done for us.

Tattoos are not for everyone. I usually tell people not to do it if they are unsure. There is a stigma that goes with being tattooed (at least heavily tattooed like I am). You need to be very sure of it.

I am contemplating what I want... I will be getting one within the next couple years.... just have to decide... gonna be expensive though... if I am going to get one, I am gonna get a big one over my entire back....bring on the pain... unlikely to be a gun though or even gun related.

this is excellent advise. there are peope who love tatoos and they KNOW they do. if you're uncertain, you're more likely to regret it.

i got my first at 18, my most recent at 35-36. i'm sure there are many more on the way.

no gun tats yet, but i do have a large dagger on one arm. not as plain as that sound, tho, there's stuff inside it :)

The OP stated

Any ideas?

I gave him my ideas.

From the dictionary
Idea 1. a thought; mental consception or image 2. an opinion or befief 3. a plan or scheme 4. a vage impression 5. meaning or significance.

Sorta covers my idea doesn't it?

I've got a couple...one is a fouled anchor on my bicep (Hong Kong, 1972) and the other is an eagle head in front of an American flag (just above my right nipple).
If you do get a tattoo, I suggest you have it placed somewhere you can cover it when circumstances require (job interview, for example). Also, a tattoo that is Oh so cute or cool when you're 18 may be quite embarrassing when you're 40. So, think hard about the design...

I have one on my right bicep.
It is a m16 standard a2 type rifle. it has the words molon labe in old greek above it and below the barrel it has the number 1762.

it has a meaning for me. one the rifle is one that really stands out and the words mean come and take it (if you can). the number is my distinguished marksman number to show that I plan on not missing if you try the first part.

been thinking about another one and still coming up with ideals. I was thinking about a m14 on my left bicep in a vertical position and encircling it would maybe be the words "our day will come" in irish scrip with a thorny vine or something like that. the words and vine would wrap around the rifle.

its meaning to me would be that I cut my teeth on a m14 or m1a type of rifle and darn I luv those things. the vine with thorns would be for the hard experiences that I have lived threw. and the words for me would mean that our day for true freedom would come again.

I feel if I can borrow a phrase from the early greeks then I hope the irish do not mind because the more we have our rights taken away the more I begin feeling like them under the old british rule.

It took me 52 years to get my first one like above and now than I am 55 another one seems right down the road by the spring.

It blows my mind that even gun loving folks have no clue 90% of the time when they see the words onmy tat. just wait till I get my new one as they will never figure it out but it is for me not them.

A tattoo is like wearing your favorite shirt... every day... for the rest of your life.

I used to work in an employment agency. By getting a tattoo you are not doing yourself any favors if you are looking for something other than a blue-collar job. Are people small minded? Petty? Prone to drawing the wrong conclusion? Yeah, a lot of people are. A lot of people you might someday want a job from. A gun-related tattoo is just a notch behind a drug-related one. Your future will take many twists and turns that you can't anticipate. Don't put yourself in a box. There's a reason googling "tattoo removal" will return 1.36 million hits.

The difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is that tattooed people don't think non-tattooed people are a bunch of losers.

We want people who don't like guns to leave us alone, not interfere with out liking of guns. Should the same not apply to other lifestyle choices too?

Me? No gun-related tattoos, no. Although, if I see something I like, I'd go for it.

Not to worry about the age thing folks, I'm 45 :)

I don't need any advice about whether or not to get a tattoo, thanks all the same, my question was what kind of gun-related stuff might people have?

The answer so far appears to be not much, other than Jon, but never mind :)

I have the Gonzales Flag on my right shoulder. I liked the history about it and being born and raised in San Antonio I found it fitting. I have three tattoos. The Texas flag across my shoulders, Proverbs 19:11 across my chest, and the flag on my shoulder. All three can not be seen when I am wearing a T-shirt.

Here is what the flag looks like for those who might not know.

Every time I think about getting a gun related tattoo I think about how much ammo, primers, bullets, powder etc. I can get for the same amount of money. I do have a tattoo of a normal distribution (bell) curve on my upper arm with Latin motto "from variation comes improvement". I'll get the gun tattoo when I have sufficient ammo stockpiled.

Bye the way , people who love art on themselves don't get art on themselves to attract attention to themselves , WE do it to enhance our beatiful bodies for ourselves , not anyone else .

I've seen tattooed people so stupid that I was convinced all those names tattooed on their arms were there for a reason... So they wouldn't forget and/or know how to correctly spell it should they need it down the road.

Have fun when that tattoo of a beer mug (or whatever) sags down into a yard glass in your old age. :neener:

Words to live by. That cute little boobie tattoo of a rose and twisted barbed wire with (insert baby daddy's name here) in the middle will look great at 60+...down around...or below the waist!

I wish somebody like you would have been with me in Saigon in '71 because now, 38 years later, I regret it every day. I looked a lot better without the "art" I chose way back then.

Thank you for your service, Pyzon.

miket, I think "Saigon" would have been mind-altering enough.
