I recently was looking at the Taurus 455 and 605 and was wondering if
anyone could share any info they have on either of these. I've heard
some good things about Taurus and was considering a purchase.

Taurus 605

Taurus makes a good gun and their warranty is excellent. I have a 605 stainless DAO. When I first got the gun(used, but nearly new), I had an occasional problem with the cylinder locking up and refusing to rotate. It would happen maybe 2-3 times in 100 rds, but only after shooting it awhile. Gun had to be warm. Opening then closing the cylinder always cured it for a while. Before I could determine for sure what the cause was, the problem cleared up and has not reoccured. (800-1000 rds) Other than the initial problem, I have been very happy with the gun. Recoil is quite spirited with full power .357's, but shoots nicely with .38's or downloaded .357's. I'm glad you brought it up, I'll have to bring it on the next trip to the range. :)

They seem to be thoroughly adequate little guns. The 605 is definitely the more "toteable" of the two, but I have a soft spot for big-bore snubbies. The 450's and 445's I've shot have had remarkably mild recoil with self-defense-type loads.

BluesBear,

Would you terribly mind finding out from your dealer where he got that unported 445? If I could track down an unported 445/450 or two, I have some customers that would be tickled pink...

Sorry, It's not from a dealer it's from an individual.

I didn't even know until last week that they had made any without ports.
But I will surely keep an eye out in my travels for some others for you.

While it is not a 455 or 605, I have a Tracker 4" in 45 colt and it is a great gun and could be carried as easily as a 4" K frame, the trigger is a little stiff and could use a lower strength trigger return spring. While the trigger is stiff it has a very nice pull with a little stacking typical of coil springs. The sights are the big and wide rear with a faint white outline and the front has the little orange sticker insert in the rear face.

How does it shoot?
I have shot 25 win 225 gr silvertips and these had very little felt recoil and provided 3" 5 shot groups from a rest at 25 yds. I have shot about 120 25 gr LSWC that were loaded with 7 gr of 231, real powder puff loads, and they gave me similar sized groups.

the gun is a fun gun to shoot and it handles very well.

I have thought about having the rear sight trimmed and having the barrel cut to 3".

I am trying to sell this to fund a better revolver for those "small town awakening loads", I have a Ruger Bisley on hold.
