I know that alot of people don't care for Taurus pistols much but I took a chance on the 709 and to be honest I can't be happier, its a good shooting gun and has eat everything i have feed it ....round nose, hollow point...ect.

I like the way the pistol is built and I don't see a reason for it not to hold up for a long time. It fits in your pocket very well and is slim like its name. I looked at Kel-tec PF9 but just could bring my self to buy one. the only other pocket gun that caught my eye was the Sig 238 but i couldn't find any in my area and I really wanted to stick with 9mm. I have been shooting guns for over 28 years and I have bought my share of HIGH dollar pistols and rifles to only be let down, so its nice to buy a gun that does what it is suppose to do right out of the box.

I agree. This is a really good functioning pistol and has a good trigger, good accuracy, and high reliability. I did have to send mine back to the factory for light strikes (trigger bar had to be adjusted).

I put 5 boxes of Fiocchi +p+ through mine recently and it's still as tight as it was before i did that, and those fiocchis are really hot.

I love mine. I love the way it fits my hand and i actually really love the manual safety.

To the OP,

I'm glad you are liking your new 709. I have been very interested in this gun's performance since it's debut.

I guess its always a matter of personal taste, but ironically that is the exact feature that is steering me away from it. I wish they gave us the option... manual safety or no manual safety.

I've got about a thousand rounds of more than a dozen types of FMJ and JHP through my 709. It's my daily carry, and I trust it completely. It likes to be squeaky clean.

I got one for Christmas and put 150 rounds through it today. Used WWB and had a few FTE's in the first 30 rounds or so. But then it really smoothed out and did great. My current carry is a Taurus 85UL, which I love. But once I get a hoslter for this one, who knows? By the way, say hello to my new friend.

I think the great thing about the type of safety on the 709 or a 1911 or anything similar is that you can use it if you like, and if you want to not have a safety - you simply don't engage it. I'm not sure why this feature seems to be a focal point of so many purchases or non-purchases.

I hear people complain about the key locks on guns. To me it's a non issue. I simply never insert the key and turn it. Now, if for some reason it's a mechanical liability, that's another story.

But, the 709 is a great performing little 9mm regardless of it's safety features. It's easier to flip the safety off on purpose than it would be to remove a slug from your thigh or nuts or something :). It's not unheard of that a bad guy might try to get your pistol in a wrestling match, and I don't want a finger on a trigger other than mine. The safety would help prevent such unwanted discharge. The trigger on the 709 and Kahrs and some others are so easy to manipulate that the safety is a great feature.

To my way of thinking, if you only have 1 pistol and you train with it, then not having a safety is less of an issue. I've just trained my thumb to attempt to swipe a safety down on all of my pistols. On the pistols which
have a flip up off safety, i don't use it.

Congratulations on your purchase. I handled a few of those today but it turned out be just little bigger than I was looking for. It seemed like a real nice pistol. I wanted something in between the TCP and a 709 sizes

Tough order to fill, Ninja.

I think that's what we all want.

The Kahr PM9 will fit the size bill, but it will most likely be well into the 600's OTD if you buy new.

The Kel Tec is thinner than the 709 but pretty darn close in the other dimensions.
Let us know what you land on.

My two Taurus PT autos are very likeable, glad to see the tradition continuing in new models. That gun is ugly, not sure I'll ever get one. However, as Taurus goes, nice to see new territory being explored and successfully .

Dear Taurus,

Please make a 10mm, any 10mm, please.

Can any of you comment on how much "thinner" it feels over the PT models?

I just picked up a PM9 today. Lightly used, Black stainless with night sights. I had been looking for a CW9 but none were available. I saw the PM9 and it was perfect for me.

I have shot the Kel-Tec PF9 and I am just not a huge fan of the grip. I much preferred the grip on the P11 but it is too thick for my build/dress style. I wanted something that would shoot 9mm as I have a stockpile for my Glock 17 already. The PM9 is my no compromise solution. Picking it up used dropped it into my price range and the night sights are a nice bonus, my first gun with them.

Nice choice.

As I recall, you were trying to edge in under 500.

If you got a PM9 w/night sites in that budget, you can sleep very well tonight.

Regardless of price, congrats on your pickup. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

I paid 520. I can live with that. The gun is in great shape and was not used much so I consider it perfect. Someone broke it in for me and saved me a few hundred dollars.
