Hey guys just wanted to get your opinion if the adjustable sights on the 99 is desireable and practical?

Does Taurus's have that neat little block of metal that blocks the firing pin that keeps the gun from going off when accidentally dropped?

Are the Beretta M9's available for civilian purchases?

Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance if you can help me out.

There is no difference between the beretta m9 and the civilian beretta 92fs. I would get the model with adjustable sights unless you plan on carrying it.

Functionally maybe, but Beretta has a M9A1 that comes with a better grip, mags and a bulit in rail. Also, the M9 has the two-dot sights that I really like. I just don't know how difficult converting a conventional three dot into 2 is. And I do plan on carrying it.

FWIW, My Taurus PT92 AF has been nearly 100% reliable with 3000 rounds through it, and its a pleasure to shoot. A bit big and heavy for carry purposes though, imho.

I have owned both a pt92 and 99. The front sight dot on the 99 was drilled too low in the notch, making an ackward sight picture.

My Taurus PT-99 AFS...adjustable sights, SS...has been completely reliable the ten or fifteen years or so I've owned it.

That said, it gets less use than my CZ-75B in 9-mm (my favorite!) or XD-9. It simply doesn't feel as good in my hand...guess I should look at some finger-formed rubber grips...:scrutiny:

The actual difference is mostly a matter of application. Adjustable sights allow you to set the zero form most ammunition properly. They are, however, fragile in comparison to fixed sights. Choose for yourself.

I own a PT92, pre-decocker model, with in excess of 30K rounds through it. It's still on the first locking block. The gun prefers 124 gr. bullets.

I also use a PT101 (.40 cal. adjustable sights) as a CCW weapon. It has already had over 10K through it. :)

If you find any, let me know. I am about to sell my PT99 because I just have never found grips that I like with it. The gun itself has been fantastic, but I really don't care for the Pachmayrs I have on it now, nor do I care for the standard grips. Frankly, I am sort of in the same spot as I was with my beloved Ruger P90 many moons ago: I liked the gun, but hated the factory grips. I slapped some Hogue wraparounds on the P90, and it changed the gun completely for me! I have no reason to doubt that the same would be true with the P99, but last I checked, Hogue doesn't make them for the P99.

I was in the same predicament and found some rubber Hogues for my Taurus 92. Thinner than the Pachs, no finger grooves but I don't particularly like finger grooves and they fit my hand much better. You can find them on the Hogue site at: http://www.hoguestore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=569_2_26_59_173&products_id=4225

I have looked at those, but I just never cared for the way they looked. Still, at $17.00, not so expensive to not give it a try. If I like them better than the stock grips, I guess I really don't care a whole lot about looks, since ultimately this pistol is too big to be anything more than a fighter/shooter to me. Still, some Hogue wraparounds would be sweet, because I actually do like the finger-grooves. I am convinced that they make me a better shooter from the standpoint of proper grip.

I've owned a PT92 now for over 24 years and 15 thousand rounds. The thing still shoots dead center and the action is as smooth as melted butter. Can't speak to the 96.
