I was just gifted one froma friend. Can anyone shed some light on this gun? I know it a Beretta clone but is this the one with the frame mounted safety and no decocker? I checked the Taurus website and it isn't listed. Also, are mags hard to find used...it only has one 15 rounder...thanks

Some say it is as good or better than the Beretta. I agree.

No need in getting used magazines. You can get new 15 or 17 rounders new on the internet. Stay away from Triple K. I just purchased some MegCars from CDNN and they work great.

It isn't listed because it is an older model. Taurus changed the design a while back and added a decocker. A lot of people I know like the old design better. It is a good gun and an excellent shooter. congrats

thanks...no decocker? Wonder why they would do that? My Beretta has a decocker and I find it is a nice feature, but I must admit I like the safety better on the Taurus although I haven't seen it in person yet....as for the 17 round mec-gars, are they flush fit? Also, what would be a good price for one of these in like new condition?

Serpico,

I'm a Taurus PT92 Owner. Mine differs slightly from yours. I have a PT92AR (with Frame Railings) in Stainless Steel. It was conceived July 2003 and believe it or not its not in the list as well. I have also been a Beretta colletor in the past (92FS, 92C, 96D and Tomcat). They refer PT92 as Berettanoids, but in reality, Taurus' are Beretta's Brazilian subsidiary.

And yes the older PT92/99 do not have decockers. But they have a slide safty lock. Which is stable enough for you to carry your pistol at a "COCKED and LOCK" position. The newer models have the decocker. But everything else remained the same.

Its pretty accurate and reliable, just like the beretta IF you use a higher gr. (124gr.). It shoots low at 115gr. No biggy for me I just aim at the top of the target rim. Shoots excellent using +P's.

ps: ...i got my HiCaps on ebay...some one sold 3-mags for like $35.00 w/ free shipping so I bought it all. Once in a while you'll see one.

Excellent....If someone with so many cool Hi-powers likes it, it can't be half bad....by the way, re: my hi-power hammer follow, I found out kings gun works can do the job and they are close by so I don't have to spend 50 bucks in shipping....

Hello, and thanks for the kind words. The early ones I've shot plus the one I do own have worked fine. While I'm not particulary fond of the design compared to Browning's 1911 or the Hi Power, I'm pleased with the pistol. I really cannot say how these pistols hold up under lots of use as I don't use mine much compared to several other handguns, but so far, the pistol's worked fine, has the (smallish) sights well-regulated and is reliable. I was surprised that it groups as well as it does, but am happy that it exceeded expectations.

Best.

I had one of those models a few years back, if anything, better finished than the new stuff. Very reliable, but not 'politically correct' because there was no completely safe way to lower the hammer without first unloading the gun. Other than that they work just as well as the new decockers.

For magazines the best I have found are factory Taurus, Meggars, and Pachmayrs. I have read that Meggar made the magazines for Taurus. They are all 15 rounders. I have some RamLines that are 17 rounders, they are of thinner construction but seem to work as well. Stay away from USA and all the other crap. Any Taurus 92-99 mag will work in the older guns, many parts will interchange as will some Beretta parts. The old guns do not use the same grips as the newer decockers, however.

Incidentally the gun may still be covered by Taurus's lifetime warranty should you have a problem.
