I am a 46 year old woman who purchased the Poly PD for self protection while hiking. I am not new to guns and pretty efficient with hand guns, shot guns and rifles, but over the years it has become increasingly difficult racking the slide on semi automatics. It's not that I have become weaker (I don't think), but the angle has become awkward (girls are just made differently). I started to wonder if I would be able to rack effectively in a "crisis" situation.
I saw the PD poly and decided it was affordable enough to take a chance on and I have to say I LOVE it. Not the gun I would go out and play with on an afternoon (I'll use my shotgun for that), but the versatility is exactly what I hoped it would be in a handgun. It fits nicely in my waist bag. I don't really feel that it is too heavy for my pack (my water bottle weighs more than this gun loaded).
I don't think the recoil is too bad considering what you are putting through it. It is LOUD - so even if you miss, you will probably scare the crap out of anything that is coming at you. I am not a criminal, so I don't know how they think, but if someone was pointing that thing at me and fired it (even with a miss), I would have serious second thoughts about continuing my assault.
I can see where people question the effectiveness of this gun at a distance with .410 but.... shooting someone or something at 45 feet and claiming self defense just does not seem very realistic to me. At close range, I think it would be very effective.
Holding accuracy on repeated trigger pulling is tricky. But cocking the gun is easy and only takes a second. Overall, I think this gun is a perfect fit for what I am using it for. Hope I never have to test it in a real life situation, but if I do, it will be confident.
