Taurus metallurgy better now?

On Saturday I saw a new Taurus 66 at my LGS. It seemed to be decent, although the new black finish Taurus uses isn't all that pleasing.

A couple of customers and a pair of employees were comparing it to some EAA Windicators (this was the first time I saw Windicators in the wild) and the 66 was the consensus choice

Weihrauch builds a fine gun. Hardly seems like an apples-to-apples comparison, though. The Windicator is a 6-shot, fixed-sight snubby and the Taurus 66 is a 7-shot, adjustable sight service-size revolver.

Oops I typed 66 when I meant to type 65. And both Windicators were 4" models
Ah! Yes, that's much closer.
I just put my mid-90's Model 66 Taurus up for sale through Gunbroker at one of nearby gun shops. They're real good about handling all the details. Around here they're not worth much but online they sell well. I think this being Smith country, Taurus just never got much traction. The good news is, if you find a used Taurus for sale locally, it's dirt cheap. The bad news is, it's probably been treated pretty badly.

I saw a couple nice ones a few years ago locally that showed little wear abd were nicely priced, but sadly I didn't have the funds then.

A nice blued 66 and a great 3" 85. I wish I could have afforded them

I beleive they are nitriding their revolvers the same as some models of Smith and Ruger. Although I agree it doesn't look as nice as the good old fashioned bluing, it is more durable amd weather resistant. Function vs appearance.
