I picked up a PT111 this weekend. It's the newer DA/SA model, not the original DAO. You can't decock it once it's chambered, though, so I'm wondering if most people carry this gun with the safety on? Or is it safe to keep the safety off if it's cocked? I'm used to carrying a DA/SA gun decocked with safety off so I was thining I'd like to carry the PT111 safety off in a hard plastic holster (Fobus) to keep the trigger well protected. What do you guys think?

If its got a short SA trigger pull I would carry with safety on. Im not sure about this newer model, but if it's got closer to a CZ75 trigger pull than a Glock, I would keep the safety on.

You can't decock it? So then with the safety on, it would be cocked and locked?

Nothing wrong with that. I assumed there was a decocker, though.

I guess it depends on what you are used to carrying. I'm used to carrying Glocks so when I do actually carry my wife's PT111 pro I carry it w/ the safety off. It's not like it has a hair trigger so I don't think it's any more dangerous carrying it w/ the safety off than it is carrying a chambered Glock.

I carry a Taurus 24/7 that has the same type safety. I put a bullet in the pipe then flip the safety on. It locks the trigger and slide. It is a flip up/down safety like a 1911 and is easily flipped off with one hand on the draw. Carried in a Galco inside the waistband holster it is secure and available.

I carry a PT111 Pro in 9 mm as a BUG. I carry with the safety ON. Never had a problem and have never had to use it outside of a training situation. In training, the safety on has never given me a problem. Recommend you carry with it on. Just MHO on this.

Down to fire is natural to me. I like my PT145 (except those dang sights)I have caught myself thumbing the safety off on my glock when I practice drawing.

Its safe to carry either way just keep your finger off the trigger untill you are ready to fire ;)

By the way the new MilPro's are SA/DA not DA/SA

It is always a single action fire unless for some reason a primer fails to go bang, then it reverts to double action to try the round again, once the round fires or you manually eject the round and chamber a fresh round its back to single action ;)

My vote would be to absolutely carry it with the safety on. A cocked single action pistol with the safety off is not a safe gun, this is just an accident looking for an inappropriate place to happen.

By the way the new MilPro's are SA/DA not DA/SA

I agree 100%, but I think you'll find that Taurus does call it a DA/SA.

Safety on with mine. One in the pipe. DAO PT111.

My situation exactly. I don't think my level of training comes anywhere near that required to perform a "quick draw".

If I don't have time to sweep the safety, I just don't have time period.

I carry mine cocked with safety on. Like others have said its not that hard to release the safety as you take it out.

I carry my PT145 with one in the pipe and the safety on. I never have worried about the safety coming off, etc... so I think you'll be just fine. You'll be safe when pulling the handgun out of your holster.

For me:SA=safety ON / DA=safety off.On the rare occasion I carry my PT111(older DAO model)it has been one in the pipe safety off,gun in holster(belt or pocket)that covers the trigger.....no problems. If and when I would carry my PT945 it would be cocked and LOCKED.Of course I usually carry a revolver,so don't listen to me;)

I went back on forth on this, deciding to carry my PT-140 with safety on. It's second nature to me to thumb off the safety, and it lowers the chances that if a BG were to get it away from me, he'd be able to use it quickly against me.
