I am looking at a used taurus pt92 that my friend has and it has the mag release in the botton of the grip all f the pt 92's I can find on lime have then up where you can easily release them with your thumb like the berettas . Can anyone tell me why its like this and is 325 a good price/

He also has a beretta 92brigadier G I can get for 475 in real nice shape with the box 2 clips and the lock

Thanks

Dan

European style mag release, not sure if they make/ import those anymore. Not sure what benefit it offers.

From what I find on the net it looks like the europain style release was on the older guns mid 80's were these guns beter or worse back then? It is in really good shape . I am wondering if 325 is a good price? no box only one clip.or should I go with the beretta 92brigadire G with box and 2 mags for 150 more?

Thanks

Dan

The older Taurus 92s were pretty nice. My boss has one identical to the one you're considering. If you want a "normal" magazine release get a later taurus or the Beretta. Some beretta/aftermarket mags you find have the cutouts for both the lower left button and the 'normal' button. But most you find will be cut only for the 'normal' button. The beretta will probably be higher quality overall. $325 isn't a bad price IMO if it's in stellar condition. If you want a few magazines the beretta is probably a better deal as mags are plentiful and relatively cheap.

Another thing to consider is whether you want a frame-mounted safety or a slide-mounted safety, like the Beretta. The taurus you're considering has a frame-mounted 1911 style safety and no decocker; at least that's the way my boss' is. I prefer this for informal shooting but it's more tricky/dangerous to lower the hammer on a loaded chamber (if desired). Something to consider. The later Tauruses have the frame-mounted safety that also flips downward to decock. I have one and vastly prefer it to both of the other varieties.
