TAURUS TCP break-in review.

I finally managed to contact a human at Taurus on the second day. I was on hold of a total of 7 hours. Good thing it was snowing and I could not fly ( work)

They gave me a repair number and then wanted to charge me $50 for shipping.
I said B.S., I just bought this gun, it was new and it does not work.

So the gal said she was e-mailing a Fed-Ex shipping label.

Well it never showed up and she said that I should just call back it it does not.... I wonder how many days this will take ???

It is interesting how different people's experiences can be.

My TCP was perfect right out of the box, but one of the two magazines it came with had feeding problems.

I called Taurus, got an immediate answer and they sent a new magazine without question that arrived in five days.

No issues yet with my tcp. It feeds flat nosed lead and fmj perfectly. I haven't tried enough jhp to say either way. It's accurate and easy to shoot in my hands. Compared to my kahr it is a work of art. Hopefully it remains reliable and I won't need to contact Taurus and test their customer service.

All I will say is good luck. Maybe I got a lemon. But when you shoot just under 100 rounds of different ammo through it and can't get through a whole mag without either a jam, mag drop out the bottom, or both....
Tried 3 types ammo and 2 mags, changed grip position, 2 shooters. Didn't matter. I wouldn't even keep that p.o.s. for something to keep in my car...
Went and traded it off for a .40 Shield - went straight to the range with 3 different ammos, it went bang every time with no failure to feeds and no issues at all.

I just got a TCP with a D at the end of the ser no.

I only have about 55 rounds of Remington UMC 95 grain fmj
through it.

No issues at all 1 or 2 handed either mag, perfect function.

Im very happy with it and I carry it.

Jimmy

Supposedly they improved them as they went along. I read someplace or another that they even changed the magazine design and the new ones will not interchange with the old ones.
Mine spends most of its time doing this...

OK, I just received the TCP back from the TAURUS repair shop. It was gine for about 4 weeks.

I was hoping they would give me a newer version....But they claim to have fixed to old A version.

They replaced the extractor
The replaced the barrel
they replaced the magazines
and they claim to have replaced the grips.....?????

How do you replace grips on a solid plastic lower frame
????? The serial number is the same... how weird....

Mine runs great (A model) ran it very wet to break in, run a number of different brands ammo including reloads, works great never noticed extreme
recoil as others posted maybe lost the feeling in my old hands.:D

My TCP works fine so far. At first I had a few issues because the slide stop stuck out too much and caused jams on the way to the feed ramp. After 20 seconds with a file it works perfectly and feeds everything but Hornady Crit. Defense that I've tried so far. I've noticed that the steel cased stuff seems to be way hotter than most of the brass I've fired. Firing the Tula (junk ammo IMO) and the Remington ammo right next to eachother was like night and day.

Float Pilot: The polymer grip frame and steel insert are seperate pieces that are easy to swap. Must have been pretty out of spec to justify changing it though.

My guess from that pic is that the chamber or the extractor was out of spec.

Sometimes, you get lucky, and sometimes, you don't. I had the Taurus 380TCP. I could not make it through a single magazine without a jam. I sent it back to Taurus twice ( got a new magazine each time ) but was never better. Please don't suggest that I was limp wristing it because I own a number of semis and this is the only one I have had to send back

I've owned a C model for a couple of years. Only negative was some brass to the face. I sent it back to Taurus (because free in the first year) and it came back ejecting the way it should.
Have around 500 rounds through the gun with zero failures. It isn't very pretty but I like the way it carries and it runs great.
I did do a fluff and buff before firing the first round when I bought it.

UPDATE: I took the newly factory repaired TCP out to the range. The side locked back on every round fired.
Apparently the claim that Taurus fired 40 rounds through the gun was FORM LETTER BS.

So I modified the slide latch activation pawl that was being pushed up by the live rounds in the magazine. Swiss files and a honing stone.

( There is a reason that Ruger and Keltech do not have slide stops.

After my shooting bench modification the gun works perfectly. But all groups are now much lower than point of aim with the new barrel.

The slide stop and everything else has been flawless on my TCP with the exception of a bad magazine which Taurus replaced immedietly.

It is now my second most carried pistol.
