I have a Taurus TX-22 that I got awhile back. I liked it, and it shot really well,...but it was so light and "toy like" in how if felt.

Recently I ended up with a Competition slide. That made it feel much more like a "real gun" in terms of weight. It actually feels good now and balances very well.

I'd like to hear more about the slide. Pictures would be welcomed.

Is a might heavier due to the bull barrel maybe. In 22 doesn't matter to me, both slides interchange and work well. I purchased the comp slide direct from Taurus at 199 I believe. Now I see they offer a plus 5 mag extension so that gets you 21 shots from this little guy. A joy to shoot.

That's what I got as well. The slide and barrel from ericuda's post. It's on my OD Green frame. I plan on taking it to the range on Sunday to sight in the Burris Fastfire 2.

But yeah, the barrel on the Comp is significantly thicker than the original, so with that and the extra length, it really makes this gun feel much better.

I think the TX22 is the best thing Taurus has made since their Beretta 92 clones. The G2C, G3C, and GX4 series seems to indicate they are starting to get things right, except for maybe the emulation of FN's FNP, FNS, FNX rapid obsolescence of models, although Taurus has a long history of producing short lived models. On the one hand. you can admire creativity, on the other you can easily end up with an orphan gun and find their support of it lacking.

But in any form, the TX22 is a winner.

They use to release a lot of gimmicky crap. That was part of their problem. Newly engineered guns usually have issues and bugs that must be worked out. Glock, M&P, HK, and others have already been through their growing pains and are now vetted and reliable. Seems like Taurus finally got tge hint starting with their PT111 G2 series. They found a winning combination that works, is relable, and is very popular, and just like with Glock, they are just tweaking the outer appearance and/or are making slight superficial changed and upgrades. The core of the design stays the same.

2 XTX22.jpg TX22's really surprised a lot of people. I know they surprised Glock when they were out selling G44's 3 to 1. I haven't even seen the competition one, but I'm going to get a slide for one of my TX22's.

My sister and BIL have 3 of them! I handled them last week when I went to visit them. I was thorouhgly impressed by the gun. BIL put a +5 mag bumper on one of the mags for 21 round capacity!

It is a light gun, but it has more of a duty gun "feel" to it then the Ruger MK2 that I recommended she buy. My wife even liked the way the gun felt.

I know what you mean by toy feeling. When i shot my brothers Glock 44. I couldn't believe how light it was. Im used to my metal framed 22 pistols. I'll be getting my 44 this coming week.

Because of the bad rep I was staying away from Taurus and looking at others. Had decided to go with a Walther P22. When I walked up to the case and told the clerk I wanted the P22 it was sitting next to the TX22. I asked to take a quick look at the Taurus. Glad I did as I ended up with it. An enjoyable plinker.

Yeah, I had a Walther P22 in the past. Horrible trigger. The TX-22 is much better. With the regular slide setup, I can get very good groups at 7 yards...almost as good as my bull barrel Mark II with volquartsen trigger. I'm looking forward to taking this Competition slide and barrel to the range on Sunday to see how well it can do.

I've been looking for the Competition upper for a while, seems like its always out of stock. I'd like to convert my regular TX to the red dot target gun, keep my G44 as a regular sized .22.

The title of this thread is a bit misleading. The Competition was not the "no longer toy like" thing. The original TX-22 is what feels toy like, due to its weight. Having said that, even something like the FN Five Seven can feel "toy like", and it is a quality firearm. Just wanted to bring that up.

Took this pistol out to the range today. Pretty decent. Of course, not as accurate as my Mark II, but pretty accurate. Using a micro red dot is a bit odd, but did well.

One thing, though,......it did NOT like Federal Automatch. I don't think I got a single normal cycle. It did fine with CCI Minimags.

I took my TX22 Competition to the range today and I was also shooting Federal Automatch and it shot perfectly. I’ve got a standard TX22 and a Competition and they have both had several thousand trouble free rounds with it. I’ve got a Holosun 507c mounted on the competition and it is crazy accurate. It will easily shoot 1in groups at 25yds.

I WISH mine shot the Automatch. I have a bunch of it. Not sure why it won't. It will either stovepipe or not eject it at all.

Automatch is virtually all I shoot through mine. I was working on building a supply of .22 ammo for my rifles when I had to shift my financial priorities. I still intend to test my TX22 Comp with alternate ammo but it's going to take a bit longer.

So,....if my TX-22 Competition doesn't cycle the Federal Auto Match, what might I do in order TO get it to work? It's a new pistol. Could some of that be "breaking it in"?

Could be. Or it could be that yours in particular doesn't care for Auto Match. There aren't a lot of different recoil springs available yet for the TX22 and that isn't likely to happen anyway.

Lube it up a bit maybe. How is it failing. To feed, eject or what. Mine works flawlessly as long as I load mag correctly.

It doesn't eject or feed most of the time. I don't recall having a single moment where it fired the round, ejected the casing, inserted the next cartridge, and fired it. Again, with the Automatch.

No problems with the Minimags.

That seems to imply a power issue. The only thing that comes to mind under those circumstances would be for the factory to have put the wrong recoil spring in. In other words it's possible they put a regular TX22 spring in. Since that slide has has more mass it's possible the recoil spring for that model is stronger.

How many rounds have you put through the gun? I find that the striker block and striker channel get dirty very easily and that certainly doesn’t help. There are some good videos on cleaning that part of your gun, but beware, there are two very small springs that you need to keep track of.

I took my Competition to the range yesterday and was shooting Automatch and had several rounds that wouldn’t fire. These are the same rounds that Federal puts in the blue 800 rd Range Pack - which I used to swear by, but the last box the ammo was very fiddley. Very waxy compared to normal. I find jacketed rounds work best, but they can be hard to find.

I've put maybe 100?

My boxes of Federal Automatch are several years old.
