Tax rebate. How will you spend it? (Merged threads)

Wasn't that last one of $300 really a loan? I remember seeing it on my income tax statement.

Is this a loan?

Besides, $800/$1500 is NOTHING. Total peanuts.

I'd sit on it and give it back when the government decides to tax it as "income".

The last one was basically a loan. This one is not. It is being done by removing the lowest tax bracket which is why there is a discussion on whether those that don't make enough to pay should get anything back.

If i get such a thing (not sure if it'll go through/what conditions) I'll probably have to put it in the stupid bank (otherwise my girlfriend might beat me up). However, there is a slender chance that i'll use it to buy the nicest Springfield 1911 I can get for that price (hopefully a loaded falls in that range).

Since I am married it will be 1600 (in this scenario).

$150 - 300 count box of 308 winchester for the SA-58
$300 - CCW class and Permit
$1150 - Savings.

It's a tax break, meaning they are giving some of the money back to you that you already gave them. If you gave them none to begin with, there is none to get back. BTW... not meaning to sound snippy.:)

Mine will go into the bank, right where it should have been all along. Prolly pick up some 9mm dies and bullets/primers for the spring "reloading season".

How very bourgeois of you.
All the people in America who work 2 jobs just to have enough money to be broke at the end of the month would likely disagree with you.

That money will be a boon for a lot of people.

Well if it comes back at what I think it will I will be purchasing Les baer DCM hard ball gun.

Either that or I thought maybe a Remington 870 tactical and a Remington 700pss. Or just an m1a from springfield Its hard to say, not sure what I really want to do.

it most likely will sit in the bank for when they "take it back" next year. There is NO such thing as free money, unless you don't want to work then the state will pay for you and your 15 kids.

Well, if I got handed $800 the responsible thing would be to use it to take a large chunk off my credit card debt, although I would almost certainly be off to the local gun store to buy an AR15 of one flavor or another, a couple spare mags, and a nice red dot sight.

Hey Griz,

I think you need to chill out a bit and drink a little less coffee. If you only pulled in 20K last year than you shoud not be paying any federal income taxes. If you are the tax man is screwing you.

Yes everyone could use some extra refund money, but I still see ALOT of people that want something for nothing and that goes for whatever income you are at. My wife and I work VERY hard to provide for our family and take care of our kids. I am just sick and tired of taking care of everybody else's kids too.

I hope you are getting a degree in something useful that will make you some real money someday and then maybe when you have a mortgage, kids, school bills, etc. you will understand where I am comming from better. I remeber how my attitude has changed since I got out of the college bubble world.

Yes the illegals and other free loaders bother me too.

Electrode,

My point is, if there is ever a time that I could use a little free money to buy myself a toy, it is now. But apparently I may not be eligible. My degree is significant and I can expect to make triple what I make now when I get my first job. If I get a similar tax break after graduation and taking a new job, it will be insignificant (as other posters are indicating). I will have plenty of money to buy myself a toy whenever I want, and 800$ will mean nothing to me.

BTW, grad school is beyond this "college bubble" you speak of. I'm over 30 years old, I have a boss, and I have to work, just like you. People in my position are already paying off their undergraduate education, having kids, and paying mortgages.

So I share your perspective and don't like it when part of my paycheck goes toward the true free-loaders. I also don't like it when Paris Hilton get a bigger tax break than people like me.

Might actually have that custom rifle built. Been planning on doing it for a while now. Or try to pick up a pinned/recessed Smith 27.

What Will YOU Do With Your Rebate?

What rebate? What with our income, kids, mortgage, etc. we usually end up getting more back than we put in. That's likely to end, as the mortgage is paid off as of a couple months ago, and there's only one kids left at home.

If we see any of it, it'll go towards the rent the city charges me to live in my own home.

Griz.

Hey you are right. The whole Paris thing is a pretty frustrating thing (he he). I agree any money back is welcome we all pay too much in the end and maybe we can get some of our money back. After all I know better how to use my money better that the government.

This is getting frustrating...no matter who we get in november R or D. I am afraid we are all screwed.

I heard some pretty good expert say we might slow down a bit the first 6 months this year and pick back up again in the last 6 months of 2008.

Anyway that is off topic...I still want my 1911 but the responsible self says I owe my wife a dinning room table and chairs first...then the 1911 before the elections.

IF it gets here...I'll get ammo and reloading components. There is always need for ammo. :D

Wife needs kitchen improvements...so...most will go her direction along with lots more! :what:

Mark.

I will buy another EBR to ready myself for the definite possibility of a Democrat administration and a new AWB. :fire:

But seriously, if anyone thinks this token will fix our broken economy they are drinking the kool aid. :banghead:
