You'll be much better off printing that off, and mailing it to Governor Perry and your elected representative.

Politicians routinely ignore online petitions and similar.

Thanks for the link :)

you would think that TEXAS would have OC already it being (as far as im concerned and i live here) the state that is most steeped in history and heritage dealing with guns....

IMHO i think police would like OC better THAN CCW cause they could easily see who has guns on them and who hasnt got any

We are surprisingly backwards thinking when it comes to handguns.

Long guns we have basically no laws at all but handguns it was pretty severe for the longest time.

It's on the move back the other way, there are lots of folks preparing to push for open carry.

One of the biggest problems in Texas is that the Legislature only meets every other year so it's damn near impossible to get anything done in a timely manner.

Nahhh. OC is tactically irresponsible IMO. Best not to be the first one shot when the BG's try the funny stuff. As a civilian, I'm all for the element of surprise. I'm not a cop, and don't want to look like one. Concealed carry is the way to go. Texas has has laws against OC since the 1800's, they're not going anywhere. I personally have no problems with that. Better to repeal all laws that restrict people from carrying in the first place. I shouldn't have to get a license to put my rights into practice.

TexasRifleman is correct. Since the legislature only meets for 6 months every other year, changes are slow. TSRA has done a good job of making headway of one sort or another every session. I have no idea where OC resides on their list of priorities. Most of those changes require laying the groundwork with the representatives and state senators between sessions.

What you need to do if find one or two representatives to sponsor legislation and get it put in the hopper for the next session.

Most people I know are happy with CHL license or the ability to carry in their car. I don't know anyone who wants OC other than what I see on the web. I don't know how it would be received on a statewide basis if people really got serious about passing it.

I'm all for it. The criminals don't care if they are breaking the law or not when they are armed. I'm in favor of doing everything we can to level the playing field for the upstanding citizens.

I signed it, but there are some pretty naive things being said in it.

6. A criminal will not open carry a weapon because he does not want to draw attention to himself. We believe that a citizen openly carrying a handgun lawfully will be a deterrent for crime.

8. In these states, Open carry is very common and it does not alarm law enforcement or other citizens.

If OC is legal, common, and doesn't alarm law enforcement, then why wouldn't criminals open carry like the rest of us? D'uh?

4. It is well known that the requirement to conceal a handgun for the purpose of protecting self, friends, and family can be difficult especially in Texas with our extreme heat since a person will usually have to wear a jacket to properly conceal a handgun and to avoid "printing."

Folks need to learn to make better carry decisions. Since we are obviously not concerned with folks knowing we have guns if OC is to be allowed, then why are we concerned about wearing fanny packs?

5. The requirement to conceal a handgun can make it difficult to draw the weapon should the life of the carrier or the life of someone else be in danger.

Yes. That is why it is important to make proper carry decisions. If you are carrying in a manner that makes the gun difficult to access.

Who writes this stuff?

That hasn't held to be true in places that already have open carry. Not to the extent that it's often enough to get noticed.

I have no particular desire to OC but it should be the individual’s choice. Therefore I will fully support it for those that wish to do so.
