My CHL was good until November.

I took the Renewal Class Wednesday, June 29.

Finally got around to mailing the packet on Tuesday, July 5.

I got the CHL card in the mail today. Four weeks + 1 day.

Not bad! :D :D

That's pretty cool Chris, if you can just show up and renew at the Sherrif's office. They usually take close to 60 days here, which is why I was amazed at getting it so quicky.

At least you have it again - that is main thing.

BTW, I'm 3 months early for renewal, not late. So I was never without it.

Cheers!

I meant - ''having it again'' - of course yeah, no break in continuity! :)

Thinking on it - I expected the full 90 days getting my non-res FL CCW - in fact it was all but 60 days which included a small hiccup requiring resending of some info in mail. I was quite pleased with that.

Take care. ;)

Don't count on that kind of turn-around. My wife's took right at 2 months.

so, what happens if they just don't renew it? Or what happens if you have 30 days before it expires, but they take 60 to renew it? You go tuen in the guns? Just curious.

You go tuen in the guns?

No. A CHL permit allows concealed carry, it does not permit you to own any firearms. You do not need any kind of permit to own non-NFA firearms in Texas. If your renewal is late, you just don't carry for a few weeks.

so, what happens if they just don't renew it?

Unless you have a criminal record, are a drug user, have been involuntarily committed to a mental institution or are admittedly an illegal alien, the issuance of the initial or any renewal CHLs is mandatory.

However, if administrative delays or your own laziness causes a break between expiration of the old one and the arrival of the renewal, then Daniel T is right - you just don't carry for a while. That really shouldn't happen, though, and won't happen to me - I've got my date for a renewal set up on my calendar at work for 3 months before it expires.

I actually considered waiting until September 1st before sending in the renewal packet because as of that date my renewal would be for Five Years rather than the Four Years mine is good for.

But, I expect there will be quite a few people doing just that and I was concerned I wouldn't get my new CHL card before my bday in November.

That would prohibit me from carrying until the new card arrived.

Well, except in my car, I guess! Since the new law also allows in-car carry even if you do NOT have a CHL!

Weeeelllll, doggies! You gotta love that. :D

Cheers,

That law doesn't take effect until 1 September. (I know you realize that, but others may not.) ;)
