Precious memories being made.I got my grandson his first rifle this fall.He's 5,and because they live 1100 miles away I don't get to see him but a couple times a year.We shot it at 15 yards and he was in love with that little rifle.We took a long walk together and stalked up on several deer and I let him dry fire it at them.His imagination and the fun we had that day will have a special place in my heart for the rest of my days.

well its pretty common here lol!
i started him off with a 22 with a scope last month. he did really well at 65 yards. the 556 has a little more kick. next is the 243 youth model. next season hes gonna take his first deer.

I started all ours in a single shot .22lr, and a single shot .410 .
Do the same, generally, to their friends, who have never shot, as well (and some of those are in their 20's!).

There’s no criticism at all meant for your thread, no sense in being so defensive.
“That’s what it’s all about” is the closing line of each verse of the “Hokie Pokie,” it’s a common kids song and dance. So your titular line for the thread is akin to saying “we all fall down” or “all the kings horses,” the Hokie Pokie song is inundating, so it’s quite surprising you’ve been able to escape its grasp.

Nope, good thread. The older I get, the more time I like to spend with grandkids teaching them to shoot and hunt. That is what it's all about. Due to heart attack I missed deer season with my son and grandson as well as shooting. I am hoping I have more years ahead of me to do that. I expect so.
