I read somewhere one time believe it was one of the outdoor type magazines from late 30s or 40s. Asked the hunters in one of the western state with elk what they used to hunt elk. I think it was something like 25% said 22 savage high power.

There are a lot of kewl cartridges out there! However, when I was 13 ( 58 years ago ) I sporterized as 03A3 in 30-06 and it still look like the work of a 13 year old. BUT it shoots true! I have never found the want enough to leave that cartridge. Of course I am not going out to tangle with the big ones that have long teeth and claws, AKA grizz. If I am in that type of country I got Nosler 180 gr partitions with a mag on my waist. If I am camping in said country I have the mag on my waist at all times. If I am in open country and want a flat shooter I am using 150's or 165's, all Nosler partitions. I reload and practice with all weights of the bullets mentioned
I like the old saying " Be wary of the man with only one rifle " ;)

A long time ago I thought the only big game cartridge to have was a 30-06 and killed dozens of deer with it and maybe a few other things. I thought my buddy's .270 was a sissy gun. Then when my kids started hunting I branched out into all kinds of cartridges from .357, 7.62x39, 243, 30-30 .223 and few I don't remember. I upgraded to a 7 MM for a Elk hunt and became my favorite until I broke my shoulder. Back to .223 until I could handle a 7-08. So that is the best. However I am thinking about a new Tikka in 308.
