"I think everyone is playing right into Darths hand. If nobody pays any attention to his post, he will probably go away."

1BLINDREF- I also find the post inappropriate here, but I agree with the others who voiced their opinions that Darth should stay around if he will be a solid, contributing member. If so, then we will have a good addition; if not then, well, that's life.

"Sure! Have you seen my photo of my 442 in the Kramer? The 340 looks like a veritable twin once it's in the holster" That's right 442 and 340 would look the same wouldn't it? :scrutiny: I was too lazy to go back and find that picture somewhere back 50 pages.
I'm still having a hankering for a 340. But not until they get over the "stupid" prices right now. Let's see 200 per week....(calculates market penetration saturation point, throught regression analysis).

Man that holster looks like it is vacuum bagged on that 340/442. Must be the sweat from the concealed carry tennis match. "I loose, I loose, it's ok Mr. LopLop, yeah that was in bounds for sure. Your game." :D

Thanks for sharing, again. Since you won't be around it will be ok for us to talk behind you back while your gone, ok? :cuss: Safe travels or successful projects or both.

Well, since I was playing my wife, it's more like, "Mrs. Loplop, do you think you could let me win once and awhile??"

:banghead: :D

The Kramer was pretty much brand new in that photo, and it still looks appreciably the same. I think the generous "hook" above where the hammer would normally be, which is designed to keep the holster in your pocket when you draw, helps to lock it into place in a pocket.

It really is a nice holster. I should buy a Mika one of these days to compare and contrast them.

I feel guilty, I cheated on my 642....
Darkside852003 - The grass is always greener...Please let us know when you return to your senses.

DAdams - Does your trigger feel any different with the new sear? Let us know how it shoots.

Can I still be in the 642 club if I purchased a 442? (I liked the way it looked better and all my buddies on LAPD carry one) I pick it up on the 30th of this month. It will be part of my concealed carry rig in Arizona along with my XD 40, haha.

DomMega - We like the 442 just fine, welcome to the club, we are pleased to have you as a member!! I think the XD 40 will make a fine backup for your 442.

The trigger feels about the same as prior to failing, which was coming along nicely. It may be slightly smoother because when the gunsmith removed the side plate the thing was dryer than Tucson in July. They may have blown out the metallic dust too that accumulates from the MIM parts smoothing out during dry firing a few hundred times. I had only put about 55 rounds through it prior.
The smith put a small drop of lube on a few key points so even if S&W didn't it needed at least some, albeit not much.

I'm hoping that's behind me and was an uncommon glitch. Certainly amongst all the new owners on this thread I haven't heard of any early failures such as mine. MTBF was going to catch up with one of the guns perhaps made on Monday sooner or later and it happened to be me.

Now if I can get my Kahr PM9 back and get a few hundred out of it w/o any more issues. I have had the handgun black cloud over me, which seems unusual as both were NIB. I'm trying to remain philosophical about it. :banghead: :D

RE: Crimson Trace Early Impressions.

Doing a bit of dry firing today and using the CT for target acquisition was a real eye opener. To know that when this is dialed in properly one will be able to point and shoot as soon as the target is valid and the way is clear (clear leather). Which could be a significant amount of time improvement in a real shooting event such as if the sights were actually needed. Better than just point and shoot without them by a long shot.

DomMega welcome to the club. I like the looks of the 442 as-well. Given the choice at the time I probably would have gone with it too, but didn't have the choice and didn't feel like waiting.

Thanks for the responses to Darth's post. I agree and would hope he would not remove himself from the thread, just remove the post. I too am proud of the conduct and above-boardness of the folks on this thread. It is just like a big family of fine shooters and hobbyists. Glad to be here.:)

Hey guys!

Any room for a new (proud) 642 owner? Well, my wife and I purchased ours sort-of blindly back in February - and have been in love ever since. We are actually considering purchasing a second.

By the way, great thread!

Dadams: Good to see you got your 642 back. Also good to know the problem was not lock related. As for the new CT LG-105...I simply love it! The grip feels better than the stock boot grip...easy to grip, conceal and recoil is next to nothing, albeit, 110 gr. DPX has low recoil to begin with. What a perfect combo. I can place all rounds in the 10 ring at 7 yards (this is where I zeroed my laser) with little effort. I will have pics during my next range outing. Oh, I always pocket carry my 642 in a Mika...but am experimenting with some IWB holsters.

Dawg, I DEMAND you remove those pictures because i'm highly offended by them because they make me want to immediately spend all my money on laser grips :( I noticed the 105's have the open backstrap like the stock grips.. do they help with the recoil at all without a covered backstrap? I replaced the stock grips on my 642 with Hogue boot grips. :D I load my 642 with the 110gr DPX also. I like the low recoil - firing +P 125gr is considerably harsher. I should put the stock grips back on and try firing some of the DPX...never tried those on the originals. The ballistics i've seen on these rounds look impressive. Did you find somewhere you can get these in any kind of quantity online? I stumbled across a box of 20 at my local gunshop...need more, as i fired 15 to get a feel for them in the gun...my extra speedloaders are full of golden sabers. If you (or anyone else) knows a good place to find these, I'd be appreciative if you can post it :D

Headless: My new favorite online ammo store has DPX's . . . www.ableammo.com

Also, I second the motion of not maliciously posting provocative pics of the 105's. Could incite a guy into "laser lust". [He says as he pulls out the credit card and searches for a deal on them online.]

Well Headless, I believe I got my DPX from ammuntiontogo.com. I belive the price and shipping was cheaper than cheaperthandirt.com (the only other on-line place I have ever purchased them from). I practice with all kinds of ammo...but carry the DPX. As for the grips: When I first saw them I thought they looked pretty cheap/plastic compared to the stock rubber boot. Once I got them on I found they were much better with recoil than I anticipagted..they are thinner and I found them very comfortable. Hard to explain really...I have small hands and they just wrapped around this 105 grip so much better. The laser made a beliver out of me...rounds quickly fired from all sorts of positions and hand holds...all on target.

lssable97 - Welcome to you and your wife. So now we get two new friends with one post. You will like it here and we are happy to have you.

Thanks

It's about time I thanked the starter and members of this thread for all the posts (I read the entire thread) that helped me wind up purchasing an S&W Model 360 (sort of a 3 ounce lighter, exposed hammer version of the 642, as I'll only fire .38s through it) and an S&W Model 60 (3" barrel), both complete with CT LG 405 Lasergrips and Mika pocket holsters (the latter being on order), and all a result of having read this thread.

The CT LG 405 Lasergrips make the recoil of the 12 oz, gun (Model 360) tolerable for a limited amount of practice firing, with most of the practice being done with the 24 oz. gun (Model 60), the former being simply a lighter/shorter version of the latter.

And the CT LG 405 Lasergrips have solved the severe bifocaled vision problem I was having relative to not being able to clearly see both gun sights and target at the same time (I was not able to combine clear sight alignment with a clear sight picture).

Many thanks.

Thanks, Old Fuff

I should add to the gratitude expressed in this post a special word of thanks to Old Fuff, whose wise counsel started me on the thinking process that was ultimately aided by comments in the 642 club thread.

Spiff_P239 - OK, your in and we are glad to have you, but your on probation till we see those pic's.

Glad to hear you guys will have me seeing as I went with a .357 instead of the .38 special. I promise you some pics when it shows up.

DAdams,

I am glad to hear that you got your 642 back in good working order and that it was not the lock ;) . And you got it back in about a month? Not too shabby.

S&W said it was the Sear?

I don't mean this as bragging at all, but I did have to high-five myself just now ... I guess I do know something afterall, who would have thought  ???

From my post 2170:

Defective sear (not at correct angle). This could potentially cause the hammer to release too soon, which may not allow enough force to actuate the firing pin

I guess it feels nice to know that I'm learning. I'm definitely no Old Fuff, but I and I would guess many others here and elsewhere on THR aspire to attain a tiny fraction of his knowledge. If you can do that, you'll be doing pretty good!

Got Room For Another? I picked up a 642CT at Cabelas in Hazelwood MO they had priced at $569.00 I got it for $539.00 Tell me if thats a good price? I haven't fired it yet but plan to this weekend. Also, I promise I will post a picture
