What are your thoughts on the hogue grips?
Best thing I ever did for mine, Erik.

Sure, I give up some concealability (which isn't relevant for me yet anyway since I still don't have a permit), but what I gain in comfort and control is worth it.

Nematocyst-870, as long as I can still carry it in my pocket, I will be OK.

By the way, I see you are in the NorthWest... I am in Spokane. Good to meet you neighbor :)

FYI...I ordered a round cut Mika pocket holster for my new 642 this morning and Robert sent me an email that he is backordered and it will be about 3 weeks before it ships.

Pong, Welcome to THR & the 642 Club. I have the same issues with my 442. hard to see the black front sight ona black background. I don't want t permanent paint on my front sight so I'm going to use some white out and a flourescent hi-lighter pen.

erikd65: A three-finger grip will help. Also, be sure to start out with 148 wadcutter ammo. Once you master the lighter loads, then step up to the more powerful ammo.

just joined the club, have been reading posts for a while, purchased my 642 back in March been trying to practice twice a week. look forward to talking with the club.

sorry, have been trying to get out once a week, having to go buy my self most of the time, hard to get a friend to go that has the same model s+w.

+1 on the hogue monogrips. Best thing i've ever done for my 642 was putting them on it. Pocket carry is not too feasible except with very deep pockets, however, once you get that third finger groove in the way...

I painted my front sight entirely white, then used florescent orange from just over halfway up the sight ramp all the way down.. I overlay the sights on the target to hit POA with the 110gr DPX rounds out of this pistol, and it helps having the color boundary approximately where the overlay point is. I used a pair of paint pens made just for painting sights that i got at the local gunstore. Not too good paint; it comes off after a good cleaning...good info on the other paints.

Yes, I have those grips. Used them for a while as they are a little smaller than the factory grips and are a little harder rubber, but they were uncomfortable and caused some blistering of my palm. I switched back to the originals for a while and then replaced them with a Hogue Monogrip.
The good points about those grips from CDNN are the price and the harder rubber tends to let one draw from the pocket better, but they were still not a good shooting grip. I even tried using sandpaper to smooth up the parts that were rubbing my hands raw. I guess if all you're going to do is carry and not shoot very much, they would be pretty good, but I shoot a lot.

New Baby!

Well, thanks to good packing by the dealer Fed-Ex did not destroy or damage anything. I get to head off today to see if I can add this little 642-2 onto my CCW permit which may take 4-8 weeks before approval, but for the time being I can visit my first snubbie and work the trigger with those snapcaps.

Nice thing is, the owner of the company who has the FFL joked/laughed at my 'girlgun' and brought me a presentation case for it. Case is for the titanium S&W snubbies, but it still looks nice and fits my 642-2 quite well.

So here's her first photos, no rounds through her by my hand yet, but that hopefully will change in the near future.

Once I get her home I plan to do some nicer DAdams-style photos, just need to get permission to use his photos as 'inspiration' :D

Dust 101. Thanks for appreciating my acceptable photographic endeavors. You must have me confused with Mr. Hart or some of the other photos I have posted of other's photos giving the appropriate credit to the owners.

You may feel free to "use" or post my photos. Include "photo by DAdams".

Nice case by the way!

Welcome aboard Ranger 58.

What are your thoughts on the hogue grips?

They are well worth taking for a spin. Not that expensive around $15 and simple to install.
No great loss even if you don't use them much. They are more difficult to conceal but a great choice if you are using the 642 for home protection in additon to your 12 gauge.

Aye, seems to be a problem for me, to many posts to file back through to find those fantastic photos from DHart and not get confused with other folks responding..etc..etc...

To all the new members: welcome!

This is my 1,000th THR post. I know it's not much compared to some posters, but I wanted to come home and post it here.
