Nem,

have you hit 1,000 posts on this thread yet??

Har Har!

PS The GA Arms G38E +P 158gr LSWC(HP) are great!

fiVe,
I'm surprised that with thread you started already has 3,433 posts you only have 1,000. I recently posted my 1,000th post as well.

I guess you can say your posts and threads have quality over quantity.

Thaks again for giving birth to the 642 Club thread and Congrats on the 1,000th post.

jt1/DAdams/glockman/Mongo:

Thanks for your kind "1k" comments. I am both proud and humbled by our 642 Club -- the quality posts, the quality posters, largest thread, etc.

Lately, my job has limited my THR time (altho I'm starting to see random pockets of "free" moments), but in the past, I've had a concern that someone could accuse me of "post spamming" just to get to "largest THR thread". According to my calculations, to date, I have 267 posts in this thread out of 3435 which works out to approx. 7.8% of total posts. So, at this point, I think my concern is unfounded--and I'm glad. The popularity of the 642 and the reference source this thread has become greatly exceeds me, as it should. I took the first step, but I could've never done this on my own. The 642 Club is ours--good people, good posts, new members. May we continue to grow and prosper.

Peace.

Thankful, Charter member,
fiVe

Great thread with lots of info. I ordered a 442, can I still join?:uhoh: SW raised it's prices by about $25 on snubbies, if you can find one at the old prices snap it up quick. I found one for $405 OTD.:D I can't wait to take it to the range.

Tecolote - You are very welcome here, we like 442's. Looking forward to hearing how you get along with yours.

P.S. - S&W, a bargin a any price!

1/3 there

Nem,

have you hit 1,000 posts on this thread yet??
Stainz, I just checked. (Let me know anyone if you want to know how to check post count; very easy.)

Funny you ask: I'm exactly 1/3 the way to 1000 with 333 posts in this thread.

Gees, no wonder I'm not getting more done at work. :uhoh:

Wow, Nem, I was kidding - but they add up fast.

I tried my 642 on the 'Steel Plate Challenge' plates again - with my wimpy plate pingers - 125gr HP Berry's plated over 3.4gr Titegroup for a whopping 565 fps. My times won't be good - especially if I have to wait to hear the 'ping' before going to the next plate - they are s l o w ! ! Seriously, the little 642 is a hoot to shoot with rodent flatulance loads. For perspective, I do finish up with the GA Arms G38E 158gr +P LSWC(HP) loads. Really, the 642 is not helping my 'serious' SPC shooting... but it is fun, as I hardly ever miss a plate.

congrats five on over 1000 posts, i'm just getting started. question on ammo guy's, for range use, remington 130gr mc. or remington 158gr lrn both just under 100 dollars for 500, or speer lawman 158tmj +p for 112 dollers for 500 rounds. thanks ranger58 or just dj. no pic of my crew yet sorry

ranger58 - Welcome aboard! I have used none of what you listed, but can recommend Winchester 125gr JHP +P and for 158 feel, Magtech 158gr FMJ. Both can be found reasonably priced - the Winchesters are commonly available at Wally World in shooterspacks....

I'm in the club as of lunch today

Well I gave in to all of the reviews in this group and bought myself a 642. I was spending my lunch once a month or so in the local gun shop. I was looking at the 642 again today and the owner said it will be going up 20 or 30 bucks. It was marked at $359.00 and he said that was about what he had to play to replace it so it will be about $380 or $390 He let me have it for $349. Plus tax. Please send me my 642 club membership card!!
I am now looking at the Mika and the Uncle Mike's size 3 fabric holsters.

Combatcomm - Welcome to the 642 club! You did good with that price and we are glad you have chosen to join us. I can recommend both the Mika and the Nemesis pocket holsters, I do not care for the Uncle Mike's, it just did not fit or present the gun properly for me. Your membership is approved pending the requisite photos of your shiny new 'ill monster. Welcome.

Combatcomm

That's a good price. You did well. Heck I paid a bit more than that a number of months ago.

I have both the Nemesis and the Mika Round cut. I like the Mika best, easier and faster draw IMO.

Welcome to the Club.

No problem. This looks good to me :D

Springfield XD9 Service
S&W 642
Khar CW9
DPMS M4gery
Ruger 10/22

Poorer cousin? Does that mean it should sell for less? In my are the 442 and 642 were the exact same price. I chose the 442 because I like blued guns and at night a black gun isn't as visible: except for it's laser beam on the bad guy's torso.

I am SO tempted to get a CW9 to replace the 642. You guys wanna talk me out of it?

That's Crazy Talk.

Of course you need to keep the 642 and then get whatever auto floats your boat. You will be sorry if you get rid of the 642, unless you just can't master it. :neener:

A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. ;) Don't think w/o a snub you are going to be able to hang around here you future lurker.

Guess you can always go to the Glock World site and hang around on the Kahr thread.

Anyone with a blister/callous on the "bottom" (in trigger position) of their index finger from shooting their j-frame a lot? You won't get it dry-firing, it happens as a result of the abrasion coming from the kick of the live round when your finger is fully depressing (and in firm contact with) the trigger.

OK, I'll give that a shot (so to speak :D)

First thing, search in Handguns: Autoloaders and read everything you can on Kahr polymer frame pistols. I did just before I bought my K9 (which I ultimately sold ... long story ...). At the time, I thought I wanted a P9. After reading a fair number of negative reviews, I opted for the K9. Kahr may have (probably has?) worked out the kinks by now, but if I was in the market for a Kahr polyframe, I'd be reeeeeeaaaallll sure of it.

Having said that, in general, Kahrs are fine guns. If I was going to own a pistol, it'd likely be a Kahr. (I've now migrated to revolvers and will likely stay there for the duration.)

If you like the 7 + 1 rnd capacity better than 5, and the feeling/performance of the CW9 better than the 642, then go for it ... well, that is, as long as you're willing to do LOTS of training with it, including: 1) how to never limp wrist it (presumably you know that already), and 2) how to un-jam it under pressure (because I'm sure you know that whereas revolvers always go "boom", pistols do - hopefully on rare occasion - jam).

Me? Will I ever get rid of my 642? If I did, it'd only be
to replace it with either a 442, a 637 or a 340.
[Are ya happy DA? :D ]

But I suspect I'll always have an alloy J snubbie.

Keep us posted on your decision.

As a Clam, Nematocyst, as a clam.

I just can't bring myself to sell anything in handguns I have purchased....
there may be a first though....I still haven't ranged out the Kahr PM 9 since I got it back from Kahr and warranty repair. If it isn't flawless this time, it's going back one more time and then, it's gone.

Hey erik, wait a few weeks. I may know of a lightly used PM 9 you can get a deal on. Muuwwaahhaaa.

I may get a compact auto again if the Kahr doesn't work out but I still want it to be pocketable. 16 oz or less and in 9mm that doesn't leave too many choices.

I would never get rid of my 642. It is a must have for any afficianado. You are only going to loose money on the deal and someday wish you had it back.

Erikd w/o snub = future lurker.

PaladinX13 - Hey, welcome to the 642 club. Seen you around THR but this is your first post here and we are happy to have you. Yes, I have said callous on both of my index fingers but they have been that way for years. The long DA pull on these revolvers contributes to this as well.

I have not chimed in on this thread since I bought my 642 so here goes....

How many of you have been at a gunshop and ended up recommending the 642 as a "first" carry weapon?

I mean, it happens all the time.....a man and wife [or just wife] is at a gunshop or gun show mulling over a table of guns and does not seem to have a clue as to what to get. I pick up on their curiousity and chime in....

"I have been around the block a few times on this CCW thing and the best thing I know of is this S&W 642 because it is light, small, almost foolproof, etc, etc....."

It is the ONE weapon I can recommend to man, woman, beginner, or expert for self defense.

Do you have a similar story?
