I have houges on the 442. I actually prefer the UMs on the others. I want to change them to wood Spegal grips

Question About FIST Holster

Has anyone on this thread have any feed back on the fist kydex pocket holsters for the 642 and its clones. Do they hold up well ie. crack with use, does the thumb push feature work well for a consistent draw without the holster coming out of the pocket? Please post any info anyone might have, this holster looks ultra thin for pocket carry and looks like it might handle Miami's hot, humid weather well.
thanks and keep on posting
on the best thread out there

I have been using a FIST pocket holster for everyday carry for almost 6 months. I also practice defensive shooting with it weekly. No problems of any kind in the Houston heat. This holster is a real winner for me!

pocket vs waistband

Hi I've got a question ya'll...

I've carried my 642 daily for almost a year now. In the beginning I had a really nice DeSantis nemesis pocket holster. I swear by that thing.

Then last month my buddy who also carries a 642 daily got a pancake style OWB holster, which he swears by and has carried that since (he too was from the pocket carry school of thought).

So a few weeks ago I got an Uncle Mike's IWB holster, thinking this would be a good way to figure out if I liked IWB carry options.

I have to admit that while it was cool to have my pocket back, I don't think it's as useful. One thing I like about pocket carry is that you can be walking through the worst part of town, or in a situation where there is a threat to your safety, and you can both maintain concealment and your hand is RIGHT on your weapon and it is still holstered. With the DeSantis holster, I am 100% convinced that the gun will come out and the holster will stay in my pocket.

So what say you guys on this subject, the practicality of carrying IWB or OWB vs inside the pocket?

Thanks in advance, happy shooting!

Cleaning

Hello, I have a quick question about cleaning revolvers. Do I have to take the whole revolver apart to clean it? Or should I not worry about that? I always clean the charge holes and barrel, and wherever I see gunpowder on the gun.

The first time I clean any new gun I give it a detail cleaning and a periodic dealing afterwards. Between detailing it you can clean the cylinder chambers, the barrel, and the exterior surfaces. Refer to your owners manual for recommendations. If you don't have a manual google your firearm model and manual to find an online version you can download. As with any handling of a firearm you should follow the rules of safe weapon handling.

Well, here's mine...

My first revolver and it's very light. Has anyone tried this on a Fist K5 Pocket holster with the CT Grips. It might be too big or the laser unit might interfere with the holster.

Thanks...

Hey Bitz,

The only thing I've seen as far as problems with the lazer for pocket carry is that the lazer button gets clogged with tiny bits of pocket lint that can lead to jamming up the button where it works only about 70% of the time. I don't know if you can clean them.

SmithandWesson05-I don't take mine apart, but after shooting, while still warm, run a Boresnake thru a couple of times.Makes the cleanup at home easier.

Revolvers

Thankyou 308win and Cowboy117 for the advice. I myself just bought a 642-2, I have not fired it yet but it looks like gonna fire very nice. I like the light weight of the little snubbie. Im only 16 so I cant carry it on me yet. But I will carry it in the future.

My application to the 642 club

Just got it today NIB $349, made Oct 2006...

Will be using snap caps to pull the trigger around 200-300 times to get it softer...

After reading this whole message board I am convinced this is the best carry gun and plan to carry it in a Mika Pocket holster all the time...

I plan to carry it with me all the time (even while driving) in my front pocket (Levi's 550 Jeans), I am waiting on a Mika Pocket Holster Round Cut...

Any suggestions to what I mentioned above? Carry while driving? Front Pocket vs. Back Pocket?

The reason I ordered the Mika was just as a temporary until I buy a Milt Sparks PCH or PCH-R...
Do any of you own either a PCH or PCH-R? What are the advantages? and how well do they fit in Jeans or Dockers, etc...?

Anyone use the Speer GoldDot 38 SPL+P 135 gr. GDHP on the 642?

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Welcome to the club..

You carry that lil rascal in your Mika holster in your front pocket long enough for the holster to conform to your leg and the gun and you may not need that Sparks holster.
Try the Mika a while before you spend the big bucks.
.

That being said, I have and use depending on the occasion a 640-1 which is bigger and heavier in both a Mika and a Sparks VMII.

Have fun.

Sure do! If you skip back a page or two, you will see a very informal range report I did on the Speers. Suffice to say they are very controllable (at least for me) and they don't make a lot of flash.

Here's a pic of my 642 with Speer Gold Dots loaded in HKS speedloaders:

And forgive me, I just had to post a pic of my 642's older, bigger 38 caliber brother that I just brought home to play with! Yipee!!!

My Choice

I bought one of every style of holster I could find and none of them where
really CCW comfortable to me, because I don't wear baggy pants
for a pocket holster, and I don't wear an overshirt to conceal a clip-on.

The most comfortable rig I have found that I can comfortably wear
all day long like in a day long family outing is

http://thunderwear.com/holsters.asp

I even bought one that was a wrap around under your arms and they
where demo..ing it using a Desert Eagle..but the darn thing gets sticky
in Florida here, and there's too much physical movement to draw the
weapon....hell might as well tell the perp....wait here while I go get
my gun......hahahaha

However late at night when just hangin out at home in my cut off jean
shorts (baggy), there is nothing like a sweet 642 in your pocket with
or without a pocket holster...

Just Proud to be here...............

Question

This is for Rez and any other "SmartCarry" and Thunderwear users...when you carry your J frame in that type holster and you draw from it, do you find the back of the cylinder 'grabbing' the front of the pocket material? I have and it's very disconcerting to pull the holster out of your pants with the gun! Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.:banghead:

Welcome to the 642 Club and to THR, MrBCID and crabman2! Nice to have you aboard.

MrBCID, yes, I carry the Speer 135gr. load in my 442 and 642 all the time.

While I own both the 442 and 642, would this section be better if it included all of the Centenials. The 640 and the Scandium version? I guess it could mess things up.

Speer GoldDot

Anyone use the Speer GoldDot 38 SPL+P 135 gr. GDHP on the 642?

Yup! :)

Though the 642 is the core of this thread we do not discriminate against any of its siblings.
It's not their fault the 642 won the popularity contest. ;)

Ok, I will tell my 642 that it is a star in this thread but I will have to tell the others they may come in but that they are not quite as popular here. I hope they don't cry.
