Ditto on the Mika Holster

I just ordered mine yesterday also.

I would also like to ask an opinion on what types of pants (sorry women, just men's only ) that you pocket carry in. I have to dress up for work with slacks and tie but I still would like to carry on mass transit walking around town. I purchased a couple of pairs of pleated pants to see if they conceal better. What have you all found?

Deep Pockets

I have found that pleated with a loose cut do best. The biggest issue I have found is finding pants with deep enough pockets.

$$Yeah, my wife is still looking for a guy with deeper pockets too. ;) So far she still hasn't been able to do any better than what she has. $$

I like the Columbia Lander pants. It has that one darn pocket on the side which if left empty doesn't stand out too much. Much better than the typical tactical, cargos which are fine for after wear or the weekends. Nothing beats the Lander with the pocket behind the pocket with a zipper. No elastic in the waistband fortunately. You could remove the zipper string, and smooth the zipper tongue into the seam and you can't tell there is another pocket. The pocket is nicely sized for a X42 in a Mika and since it is behind the regular pocket when you add keys or a cell phone it breaks the virtually non existant print.

$29 at Cabellas website. Gander Mountain has them in stock also.

Fortunately you can still find plenty of Dockers, Izod, and Savanes with pleats that do tend to conceal better.
I have actually thought about having my tailor add/sew in a couple inches of pocket to my strong side pocket. Slightly rounded of course for the Mika Round cut. If I were going to carry with the Hogue Monogrip it would be a must if the shirt is tucked.

Some people have gone to ankle carry for the very reasons you have toppled to. Jackets with interior pockets work nicely. You may want to check out the Scottevest Products, but again they are more for professional packers or weekend wear.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone but one solution is a smaller hg.

DAdams I am looking at a pair of Colombia Lander pants and a pair of the shorts I just got in from REI. I bought them on your recommendation from your post about 50 pages back. (I am slowly going through the entire thread.) They look great and REI had some of the pants for $21.83. (limited sizes) The shorts are $25. The color is suede which must be a fancy name for khaki. Link for 32" inseam:

They also have 30":

I have had my J Frame 642 for about three years now. Never had any problems. It is about time to refinish the gun since I carry it everyday it has some scratches. I switched the factory grips to some Hogue soft rubber grips. I use the Federal personal Defense Hydra Shock hollowpoints 110 grain. I am a revolver guy and if you get a revolver get a smith and wesson.

Mika holster

A heads up to anyone thinking about buying one: Mr. Mika sent me an email today to say ship time is about 4 weeks right now.

Perhaps all the free advertising he gets from 642 club is catching up with him? ;)

308 win -
If I had 642 wives I wouldn't have time for this or any other thread!! I have to ask myself if I really want to be associated with a polygamist so egregious as to have 642 wives.
You have a good point there. (pun intended) I see I forgot one of the basic no-nos learned in my journalism classes - check, double check, triple check all text.

Glad to hear Robert's business is doing well. For those who order and wait, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

We're just jealous, I haven't got my good deal yet!

Welcome to the 642 Club. Good to have you here. I don't suspect you will receive much argument about the merits of Smith & Wesson from the folks here.

Lightening Rod. 800,000 Volts .
These can be very effective, one cravat however, if you have skin to skin contact with the recipient of the 800,000 Volts you will receive your fair share of said voltage. This will also conduct through light clothing and in wet or very humid conditions may even jump a gap of several inches. This results in muscle contractions that prevent you from releasing the activation button, and the ensuing reactions are quite... interesting. (How do I know this? :( trust me! ) Other than this minor issue, these devices are quite effective at conveying your displeasure with actions that you deem inappropriate.

another equation

jt1 - To sate your curiosity . . .
So what is the equation for determining what page post X will occur on?
page N = ceiling( post X / max posts per page )

or in the case of THR,

page N = ceiling( post X / 25 )

There is a prettier way to represent the above, but I couldn't find the proper characters. If you don't understand floor/ceiling functions yet, wikipedia it, and you'll learn it faster than you can squeeze off your 642 :)

I am sure our appreciation for his products doesn't hurt his business. But, Robert makes issue products for law enforcement agencies including the FBI and I know that at times he gets tied up in meeting these orders.

I concur - 4 weeks wait time for a Mika is easy time....Absolutely worth the price and the wait. Welcome to The 642 Club all new members!

Minor Course Correction

Let's make a little extra effort to keep things on topic. It was mentioned to me--in a polite and professional way--that we might be experiencing some thread drift. I'm sure this stems from the "quadratic" equation stuff and possibly the upcoming 5001 post. I blame myself for this as I'm prone to let the fun bubble over a little too much. We have NOT been put on notice and I do not want the fun to stop, but we have to be sure we stay within the Revolver forum rules. Except for the recent, minor drift, we have been complimented on the Club's managment and I want to keep that goodwill in place.

Thanks for you help.

Peace,
fiVe

Steady as she goes Captain.....

Perhaps we can just let the fun bubble over a little and keep the rest on our beloved Smith and Wessons. By the way, I hit round 1,850 last night with zero issues whatsoever - except a bit of a cooked appearance in places and big grin... ;)

Last night we put another 100 rounds through my new 642. We have calculated about 200 rounds shot and another 100 dry fires. Trigger is getting easier, but still plan on getting the spring kit installed.

I know that isn't many firings, but I truly am fairly wimpy as far as finger strength goes. I find that when I try to pull with one finger, my aim is too far off. If I use left and right index, I have no problem, but feel I need to be able to do it with one hand.

Thoughts?

ardito40 - Try the springs if you must. Keep the factory ones to reinstall if needed. You might not really notice that much difference with the lighter ones, usually about four pounds will be the difference and depending how well the grips fit your hand there could be some improvement. I know you have CT 305's and these are larger than the standard issue grips and can cause some problems if you have smaller hands. You need to really get a firm grip on these little monsters or you will suffer in the recoil department. If you do not feel you are getting a firm grip or that your trigger finger is not long enough to be properly positioned on the trigger with the CT's you might want to try some different grips. I know you want to have the laser but at this point there are other issues to deal with. I would recommend you get a set of Houge Batnam grips (under $20.00) and give them a try. These are smaller and might fit you better, This will do two things for you, it will allow you to get a proper grip (a tight one) and without a backstrap cushion you can get closer access to your trigger and possible more leverage. You will find that with really good grip position felt recoil will be reduced even without a cushion, if grip fit is something that is contributing to your situation. Keep working on the strenght exercises, this will make a difference as well.

ardito40 as much as I hate to say it, there are a couple of listings on Ebay for speed strips.

Speed Strips

Ardi - Speed Strips are available from several of the shooting supply companies, such as Midway USA. Unfortunately, the shipping often costs more than the strips. I have added them on to an order when purchasing ammo online, (ammo selection in my area is poor).

Speed Strips

Here is a source for Bianchi Speed Strips. Reliable, decent prices. Like a number of these places the shipping is too high.
Can always order a couple boxes of SGD .38 spl Plus P. At 19.33 per box, non-member price.

$5.94 per pair.

If you don't have an HKS 36A round speedloader you should definitely get a couple to keep around the house or in the purse. They are much faster than the strips if the grip does not interfere and at $7.97 each you can continue to amortize the shiping. Bianchis are nice because they are flat and pocket carry well. Disadvantage, only loading two rounds at a time. Definitely need to practice with the speed strips. Under pressure they could prove to be an undoing.

Newbie

Greetings - actually it's exciting to be called a newbie at my age. I got your invitation on Bersa Talk, DAdams, and thanks. From what I have read so far it looks like some good info on my new 642. Looking forward to participating.

Jim

ship time is about 4 weeks right now

That's nothing, really. Especially factoring in the great reviews his products have been getting.

I picked up a Milt Sparks VMII for my 4" 1911 (I know, bottom-feeder, ick ;)), and the wait time on that one was 12-16 weeks. And that puppy set me back 100 bucks.

By the way, for those interested in the Milt Sparks products, the current wait time is 20-26 weeks.

Why I like my 642:

  • It's light weight.
  • It's never misfired.
  • I can draw it quickly.
  • It's always at my side.
  • I shoot it well at 7 yds.
  • Double taps are very easy
    (especially with monogrips).
  • It slams 135 -158 grs into ...
  • Point, shoot ... bang ...
