All of you missed the Pardini GT-45. Best trigger of any CF handgun I have ever shot.

+1 for old school cool 4506
Commanders (Have Kimber Compact Aluminum Stainless Gen 1 I love like a favourite old shirt)
S&W CQB (Perf center 4563)
" 457 (sleeper that does exactly what it says on the tin...)
G21 not gen 4
4563 over sig 220; though I own me some Sig compact 1911s' (trad compact and ultra 2 tone)

I think all of us can agree the colt 1911 and the sig 220 are the standard by which all other .45cal pistols are judged by...

S&W 945 (What an out-of-the-box 1911 SHOULD have been-yes, I know it's not a 1911)
Any S&W .45 ACP DA autopistol (Eats any type of ammo, especially 3rd gen BAMFs)
Any S&W .45 ACP revolver
Sig 220
CZ97
EAA Witness .45 (mine have been flawless performers that eat anything)
Star M45 Firestar (Ditto, above)
Ruger P90 (Ugly as a monkey's butt, but damned reliable)
1911A1 (Commander-sized)

Yeah, I got more than 5. No, the 1911 wasn't at the top. I'm a lifelong 1911 fan, but my list was based on both out-of-the-box reliability (with a wide variety of ammo) AND accuracy.
I did not include the Glock because it does not fit my hand.

Colt 1911
Colt 1911A1
Colt Commander
Sig p220
Sig p245

The HKs did not float my boat ... meh.

Well, since people are throwing up Hi Points and Glocks, we obviously aren't being serious, so I'll say the Boberg XR45 (well made no doubt, but I've never seen one in person so I can't seriously say it's the 'best' ;))

Oh, the 45ACP Luger and M53, too

Gee I hope you don’t think I was not being serious with my list posted earlier. You know this one in post #17:

1. Obregon
2. Hi Point JHP
3. Semmerling
4. Bond Arms Backup
5. Liberator

You know jamal28 in post #1 never stated what the criteria was for determining what made a .45acp pistol the best. So I just chose my own criteria.

1. Obregon. Best .45acp pistol that looks like a M1911 (better than even the Balliestar Molina) but isn’t because it hides the fact it uses a rotating barrel locking system. Too cool for school!
2. Hi Point JHP. Best .45acp pistol that is so inexpensive almost anyone can afford it but is as reliable as the Sun setting in the West.
3. Semmerling. Best .45acp pocket pistol that is a manually operated magazine fed repeater that looks like a semiautomatic.
4. Bond Arms Backup. Best .45acp pistol that pretends to be a Deringer but is really a Derringer.
5. Liberator. Best .45acp pistol at having the highest ratio of words written and spoken about it in comparison to bullets fired by it; in fact a far better ratio than that of the famous M1911.

:)

I'd trade all of my guns for a P7M7, so that must be the best one.

Interesting choices and certainly the best according to some criteria.

Boberg XR45. Best .45ACP pistol to deliberately engineer inherent ammunition sensitivity into the feeding portion of the cycle of operation that can result in the feeding of a primed and powdered case missing a bullet?

45ACP Luger. Best .45ACP pistol that has intrigued many people but many more people would not choose as a self-defense pistol instead of a M1911?

M53. Best .45ACP pistol that unfortunate circumstances prevented from having sufficient opportunity to challenge the supremacy of the M1911? Remington I hope you are listening.

Nom de forum..... i was thinking of service grade pistol used by the military and police that why i mentioned colt glock sig and s&w. Mainly sidearm that could take a beating and be exposed to alot of abuse and punishment while being able perform there intended purpose

I suspected as much jamal28 but you know we’ve had many threads like this one and I hoped we could expand our perspective on what is “best” and knowledge of .45acp pistols. Tell the truth, did you know about the Obregon that looks like a 1911 but has a Steyr type rotating barrel locking system? By the way, the Obregon is a "service grade pistol".

Ruger P345 because it is mine and fits my hand.
1911s - what others have already said.
XDs because it is my next purchase
Glock 21 because it's a Glock.
Ruger SR 45 because it's a Ruger.

Everyone has a different opinion, is there a point to this question? You could answer it a variety of ways when someone says , best, I would have to ask , best for what, and best for who? Also best for what purpose? There are so many 1911's with so many subtle differences that you would need to quality your question. Like Military, Home Defense, Target> what application, Looks, price. etc. You can spend from 300 to 30,000 on a 1911, they will all shoot the same bullet.

Somewhere out in the world is a guy who ran a gun shop a long time ago. I went in looking for a 1911. He talked me into buying a Sig P220 because he didn't have any good 1911's at the time. I didn't know anything about Sig at the time. Like I said it was a long time ago. He was certainly right about what he said. I didn't know whether to believe him or not at the time. I'm glad I took the chance. It still works like brand new and still shoots as well as any pistol I've ever shot.

Thanks whoever you were. And it goes to show you that not all LGS owners are jerks out to burn you up for money. That gun is worth twice what I paid for it now.

Nom de forum..... thats my first time hearing about that particular firearm... ill have to do some research on it.... thank for the tip

Colt 1911 and Glock 21.For those answering "1911",I'm sorry but not all 1911s are created equal.Too many problems with too many brands.

I'm really surprised how many people are saying the USP. Not that it is a bad gun but the hk45 and its variants eclipse the USP. I say that as a USP owner as well. The HK 45 basically has all of the good of the USP but with notable improvements. The only reason is ever take a USP over the newer HKs would be if the price was too good to pass.

I don't know that they are the top/best/whatever, but the guns that interest me the most are:

1. Government sized 1911. It's like ken hackathorn says. You do t have to carry one but every American should own one. I don't carry a 1911 but I really love them and they have endured for a reason. Great gun and if I were only going to own one gun in 45 ACP it would be a 1911. A nice 1911 is a joy to own and shoot.

2. HK 45/HK 45c: these guns have it all. They have he'll and back durability and reliability as well as more accuracy than most shooters can make use of. If I were to be dropped off in dirka dirka Stan or whereever and was going to have a 45 pistol it would be one of these. A 45c would be a tempting choice for a CCW gun as well.

3. FN 45 tactical: something about 15+1 rounds of .45 makes me like this gun. The fact it comes ready for me to attach a can and mount an RMR just makes it a cool gun. It's big but that's ok for what it's built for and no other factory gun brings to the table what it does.

4. 1917 revolver: I don't really know why. Honestly there isnt a task that it would be my first pick for. However with all of the above guns it leaves room to just own something cool. I think these revolvers are cool classic guns.

5. There really isn't another 45 that really speaks to me. I do also own a commander size 1911 and a CCO. Were I to carry a 1911 in .45 it would likely be a commander or a CCO. 1911s are such cool guns that its really hard to own just one if you are a gun person.

I own a bunch of glocks but a glock in 45 doesn't really do anything for me. Nothing wrong with the 220. I own sigs I'm just not a huge fan compared to others I have. In large part its personal preference. In part it is the decline in sig quality over the years. I'd take an HK45 over the 220 without hesitation. If HK made a VP 45 I'd probably get one of those.

It's interesting there aren't many 45s that really call me because there are a bunch of 9x19 guns that do.
