Name some "non 1911" hammer fired semi-auto pistols is .45ACP

I can't think of a hammer fired 45 under $600 that I'd recommend. There are several that have made, but unless you get lucky and find a used one not much under $600 that I'd feel good about. The FN is the one that appeals the most to me.

If you don't like Glock I can understand that, but I don't understand why it has to have a hammer. Not all striker fired guns are the same. About a month ago I found an original Smith M&P 45 used for just over $300. I paid $125 for an Apex trigger kit and have well under $500 in the gun. The trigger is now better than my 1911's, and the gun is more accurate than any of my 1911's.

It has the same 1911 style safety and came with 10 round magazines. I have added 2 additional 14 round mags. They are long, and not suitable for carry, but for home defense the Smith holds more rounds than Glock, with a smaller, more comfortable grip. And it accepts a weapons mounted light that my 1911 won't. Functionally it is identical to my 1911's with several advantages. And I consider losing the exposed hammer to be one of those advantages.

A cheap Sig 220 is the out of production Browning BDA. It was an early Sig 220 with heel mag release imported by Browning back in the day.

I had one of those BDA .45s when they first came out. That gun, even with it's fixed sights, was lights out when it came to accuracy! With match ammo it could run with a Colt Gold Cup and not miss a beat.

Should have picked up the 9mm. and .38 Super versions when I had a chance because they were going for bargain basement prices, mainly because of their single stack magazine capacity.

A 38 Super version would be Oh so sweet. I seem to recall a P220 38 Super at a gun show going for $1000 a few years back. Probably a fair price.

Haven't seen one for a while, but I used to see used, sometimes CPO, SIG P-220s under 600 bucks. We had quite a few of the non-railed LE trade-ins around about a year ago all going for about $495. Here's one I got for 450.

Here's a West German CPO I picked up a couple years ago for $495.

The S&W 4506 is just a great gun. Honkin' big, heavy, but great shooters. And classic, cool looks.

I have a non-tactical FNX-45 and really like it. DA trigger not great, SA creepy, but accurate as hell. Should be able to find one used for under 600. Magazines are spendy, though.

And the saddest part of all with those BDA's in 9mm. and .38 Super was that a lot of them languished on dealer's shelves for so long that they probably sold for pennies on the dollar!

Yeah, I hadn’t messed with the one above in a few decades, huge grip for a single stack. My 2011’s feel less awkward. I suppose if one counts those as non 1911, they too are fantastic.

Forgot about the Witness .45! Very heavy, but reliable and accurate.

Decent guns. The blued version would rust if you looked at it. Tanfoglio used to refinish them but I haven't dealt with them in 20 years. Id get the wonder finish for sure.

huge grip for a single stack.

Very much. And heavy. I have the 10mm. I doubt you can find a heavier semi auto with such low capacity. Good guns. I don't recall ever hearing an issue with function in the later versions but everybody that was issued one are the reason Glock took over the police market. Lol. My neighboring department went from a third Gen 40 to the USP. They hated the USP trigger and many hated the grip. They have Glock now. Even the USP was about a LB lighter. Even the portly witness was lighter. P-97 from ruger was lighter......

Astra A-100

Lol. Getting pretty obscure now. Decent copy of a sig though. I like it.

Baby eagle 45/ Jericho 45
P-90/or p97 or the above Mentioned 345 ruger. I actually like the p97dc
Sar k2
Pt 945. And im betting there were more pt in 45
Bren 10 in 45. (Why it wasn't a bren 45 I do not know....)
Alfa defender
Px4 beretta. . Not a bad gun IMO. Pretty unpopular though.

Tanfoglio offers virtually all models of its line in .45ACP, even the very affordable polymer models.

Another option is a used S&W P99 in .45ACP which is not hammer fired but it is still a DA/SA pistol.

A used H&K USP?

Oh yeah. I know. I have a 10mm I even have a magazine for it. Lol. I remember reading about the 45. Seems like I may have read that don Johnson actually used a 45 for some of the filming of Miami vice.

But still a bren 10 shouldn't be a 45. Its a silly name . That's like FN selling a Five-seveN chambered in 9mm

Or three Fifty seveN if they insist on having a capital F and N

ETA. Ive seen bren 45s on gunbroker. Never actually seen one in person

i second the CZ 97.

with tax, mine was $750.00
My favorite .45 over the Colt Series 70, and the Glock 21 though I think I'll keep those as well. I didn't do as well you mine was $819.00
with tax and bottle deposit. Worth it. All I did was change the grips. IMG_3452.JPG

i want the Glock 21, however, none to be found.

as soon as they become available, i'll get one.

I'll take my CZ 97 over a 1911 any day of the week. It's been to Cajun gun works and now my most enjoyable pistol.
About 2 months ago I bought a LE trade in railed Sig P220, cost me about 450.

I love 1911s, and enjoy shooting them. However, if I could only keep one gun it would be a .45 and would either be a S&W 4506 or a sig P220. They both handle well, shoot excellent, and are extremely reliable. You can find used ones in my area in the $600 range. The Ruger’s are fine but not nearly as nice. I’ve never seen a CZ 97 in person, and the grip on the FN is unfriendly to my average to smaller hands. H&K is nice, but for the money I would go with Sig p220 or a nice used S&W 4506.

The Bren 10 in .45 goes for about $3 - $5,000. They only made a few of them. Years ago I shot one before they became a collectors item and I would take any gun listed in this thread over it if I had to count on it for HD.

Any new, retail HK in .45 is probably too pricey for the crop of 'first-time' gun owners.
Such pricier guns seem to remain in store display cases a while. Either the panic has really cooled off, or the throng never actually were anxious enough to find the cash for these.

I would have loved an HK (9mm USP Compact: possibly my favorite 9mm), but don't care for the stock, DA trigger pull.

I've had a 4506, and a 4586 in S&W's. I didn't like the 4586, but regret selling the 4506.
Sar K2 45 great bargain gun.
Sig P220DAK. Trigger job makes the DAK very nice. Stock? Nope.
EAA Witness. One of my favorites.
Astra A100, I've had 2 9mm early ones, a .45, and two later ones. The .45 and last two 9mm guns were very good and I wish I wouldn't have had to sell them. But they are a cult item and two of them went to a large profit!

Toss me in votes for the:

-IWI/IMI/MagnumResesrch/Bul Baby Eagle Jericho
-Tanfoglio/EAA Witness
-Sarsilmaz/SAR-USA K2-45
-Grand Powers

Don't forget the Stoeger Cougar if you can find one. That would actually be my top pick.

I also wanna say Bersa had a .45 imported.
