From the time when guns were blue.

One of the few pistols I have that the caliber starts with a "3". Mine seem to run towards the "4"'s for some reason.

As you can see in the finish, it was a partly cloudy day.

Baphomet, you have some beautiful weapons there. Sorry if I "stole your thunder" so to speak, by posting the pic.

I was sitting here last night on the Ahrends site determining which type of wood you had on that 686. I'm glad to see I chose correctly.

I don't own a 686 yet, but I do have a 629 that could stand the same treatment your 686 there has had. :)

Hey Vanilla' thanks, and no problem posting the pic. I think you'll find the folks at Ahrends a pleasure to deal with. Every handgun I have now except my MKII wears a pair of their grips. I do expect to see some pics, though, of that M29 when it's all said and done. A 4" 629 in .44 Special is on my wish-list, so I guess that makes us even!

I believe that vanilla_gorilla has bead blast envy. I've seen you drooling over that gun here and at TFL I believe.:neener:

It's definitely a nice looking gun, and I may try that with a SS revolver soon. I see it as a great way to recondition a well used/carried Smith.

My humble offering...
S&W 686-0 early performance center gun. Notice the incredible porting on end of barrel you wont see it very often. Gun is a little dirty and those rubber hogues are sure ugly but the gun has beauty of its own.

There are a lot of good lookin guns out there. This is one of my favorites, an S prefix pre M27 from late 1954. 6 1/2" barrel.

I don't own a single revolver, but this post has definately made me think about changing that fact. Beautiful guns out there guys.

Sorry Baphomet, but I have all the immortal souls I need. People just give 'em away nowadays  Sandalwood grips, however... VERY hard to come by.

Well I am almost ashamed to show you my junky old, worn out S&W Model
65-5. I have shot it so much I wore off the hammer spur.:p :neener: :what:

My, my, my, now that IS a tasteful finish! Mmm-mmmm-mmm.
Yes sir, very tasteful indeed. I salute your superior, nay, EXCELLENT taste in firearms finish!!

My best looking would have to be my M60, no dash. It's really beat to hell, but it's my best looking revolver.

I kinda like my S&W model 617 below, with the rare aluminum cylinder:

I also love my S&W model 27-2:

I'm thrilled over my Bright Stainless Colt Python:

I also can't forget to add my S&W NYSP model 520 and my pre-model 19 Combat Magnum(Circa 1956):

Ranger 40: I had several of the Bangor Punta Smiths. In 1970 I purchased a Model 19 4" in 1972 I purchased a Model 19 2.5" and a Model 14 K-38.
In 1974 I purchased a Model 27 5".

I was a policeman during those years. The 19 4" had a crooked cylinder as one side was .004 wider than the other. A forcing cone that was faced squarly and one side protruded .002 of an inch further than the other. That was no problem in the store as the gun was clean and empty.

On the range the weapon locked up when powder residue was involved. Gun was sent to Smith by Dept. Armorer. Took six months to get it back. No fix Smith my ammo was too hot and causing the problem. I was shooting 38 Lubaloys from WW. State Police Pistolsmith squared the cylinder and forcing cone and tuned the action. Gun shot well after the State Policeman did some necessary gunsmithing.

Model 14 Served me well for several years in a stock configuration.

Model 19 2.5" locked up on the fourth round fired from the box. Could not get cylinder open and sent the gun to Smith noting it was a police weapon. They cleaned it and returned it. Gun did it one other time! Years later it was found to be the trigger stop, which S&W called for all Police Armorers to immediatly pull from all K frame revolvers.

Model 27 5" came with a sideplate that would not fit flush to the right side of the frame. Upon removal of the sideplate and with the adroit use of a magnet a large quantity of metal filings were removed. Had the action tuned as timing was slow on two cylinders.

I've owned a couple hundred of S&Ws since 1970 the best were the ones built in the late 80s and early 90s. Keep your old time bluing. Give me a gun that is dependable, accurate and resilent.

M 624, 3" barrel .44 Special for Lew Horton, with a little extra work added.

Not nearly the nicest revolver in this thread...but it's the new favorite in my house -- and it's been here for just over an hour :D

3-inch Model 65-3, just as I found it this afternoon:
