I just saw an infomercial for it. My question is is it an effective non-lethal device? (it is a pepper spray/flashlight). Oh and just as a side note the infomercial was full of anti-gun non-sense like, "If you have a gun could you use it","It is really great for parents who don't believe in owning a gun".

We talked about it in Non-Firearms and came to the conclusion that without the laser and the hyperbole it wouldn't be an absurd idea to combine a flashlight with OC. The problem is still the thing is too large to be a on your person 100% of the time tool. The advantage is that you could use it as an impact device should the OC fail to stop your attacker.

As to "anti-gun nonsense", I don't think of it as being anti-gun. It's marketing to a segment that may be afraid of having a gun in the home. Just marketing. Had they quoted suspect "statistics" about how likely you are to be shot if you have a gun in the home, that would have been anti-gun.

I saw that infomercial too - I didn't think they were being anti-gun. They were just pointing out the fact that some people do not like guns, and would not feel safe owning one, so this would be a non-gun means of self defense. I personally have no problem with those who don't want to have a gun. That's their choice. My problem is when someone tries to take MY choice about owning guns away because THEY don't like them.

i like NewShooters idea. An OC spray device combined with a stun gun or even a TASER. Now if that OC was just flammable I'd feel nice and safe carrying the combo device. Can you say Flamethrower.:fire:

I also saw the Infomercial. I don't think they were anti gun at all just marketing to a market that may not own guns for one reason or another. I thought of picking one up as a "another tool in the toolbox approach" but being that I have actual LEO mace as apposed to the weakened stuff in those and a firearm I felt I was good enough.

I think the laser is a good addition that may make said BG turn tail and run thinking he is being drawed upon by a real gun. That bright light in the face should obscure any recognition by the BG to see it's only a flashlight. Also, the laser will assist the person in hitting said BG in the face with said pepper spray. He then flinches, loses his fervor for a few moments (hopefully), and get the home run swing to his noggin...ideally.

I would rather my wife have a streamlight and a gun, which she does. But I do see it as a useful device that is slightly improved over a sharp stick. Way too big though, a compact 45 would weigh less and be less bulky even with a laser and light hanging from the ever present accessory rails on the new models.

I saw part of the infomercial. It had some good points about other non-lethal weapons compared to the Cobra. When it came to the "demos", which were made to look like security camera footage, it bordered on the ridiculous. The bad guys collapsed in screaming agony the instant they were even touched by the OC stream. It's my experience that a determined person can still fight effectively after being hit with OC. The folks that were giving the testimonials didn't look like they'd be able to deal with a tweaking meth head, even after they'd been OC'd. The whole thing was way oversold.

but being that I have actual LEO mace as apposed to the weakened stuff in those
I believe I'm going to have to call you on this one my friend. First of all, mace is not as effective as modern OC sprays. Some departments issue (or did) a mixture of mace and OC, but a high SHU rating OC is the most effective spray out there. What SHU rating is your spray?

An intimidating RED LASER!

What's intimidating about a laser? The guy can't see it because he has a light in his face that is brighter than all get out and just got oc'd... What a stupid thing to say.

"If you have a gun could you use it"
I could use it as a club, as a bullet shooter or even as an acceressory to my out fit! Get some tracers and it could signal for help, the shots could signal some one if I'm lost in the woods.

As you pull out your intimidating RED LASER, you have to say;
"This is the most power full laser in the parking garage, do you feel lucky?"

I have used 15% "bear pepper spary" once (I was 16) it worked. The one I have is about the size of a 16oz beer can but a little narrower and is packed with 8-9 ounces of spary. Yea the guy fell over/back kind of defensively and ran away. The damn thing is like a fire extingusher loaded with pepper spary.
But a good wasp/hornet spary would work just about as good I think  . Bonus the wasp killer is flamable :fire: . Has any one ever used a flame thrower on a bad guy?
Bear pepper spary is nothing like those chap stick size pepper squrt guns. But my wife hads used those chap stick size ones twice and it worked both times. She said that she got the guys right in the eyes both times.
I told her to never threaten a BG with it or to even let them see it untill after she unloaded it in their face. She listened (for once).

You know, with all these women in the news being missing and then found dead you'd think they would get a clue.
"Monsters" may come in the middle of the night, but they will more often greet you with a smile.
Own a gun. Know how to use it. Shoot to kill.
