The election is effectively over. What are your gun plans?

I expect that fixing the economy, or trying, is going to occupy most of the next administration no matter who is elected. Guns have to be pretty low on the list. If they aren't, then somebody's priorities are pretty crazy, and trying to pass an AWB during a plummeting economy is going to look, well, stupid. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but the odds aren't as bad as they could be.
As has been pointed out in other threads on this topic, the GCA of 1934 was passed in the middle of The Great Depression. There's always room for Jello, and (given a majority in the House and Senate and some negative event to fan the flames) there's always time to pass AWBII.

The key things to do, in order:

1) Vote for the RKBA
2) Convince others to vote for the RKBA
3) Have quarterly contact with your state and Federal elected officials, to ensure that they know that the RKBA is important to you.
4) Prioritize prudent purchases of anything that you MIGHT want in the future. Procrastination is not your friend.

Stockpiling for resale later is an individual decision; I won't do it. But I will stockpile for my own purposes.

Points to remember:

1) Things break - 'Two is one and one is none'
2) A semiauto with no magazine is an expensive, heavy, and overly complicated single shot
3) Magazines can wear out and break far more rapidly than the firearm itself; I prefer a dozen per weapon
4) Saigas are inexpensive AKs; doesn't take a large investment to get one
5) ARs can be build piece by piece; doesn't take a large investment to get started
6) Anything that is dependant upon cheap imported ammo is at risk of having that ammo supply cut off; don't buy chamberings with no domestic source of supply (e.g. 5.45x39) unless you're also financially prepared to stockpile a metric buttload of that ammo

Don't forget that all legislation is loaded with amendments that have nothing to do with that piece of legislation. For example, the economic bailout bill was originally loaded with all kinds of Democratic add-ons like $500 million for ACORN. You can bet this will increase under Obama/Reid/Pelosi. An economic bill could have an amendment attached to prohibit internet sales of ammunition or an amendment to create a 500% ammunition tax (which Obama is on record of supporting) and so on.

I'm buying a couple more military semi-autos and a whole bunch of high capacity mags for my rifles and handguns:cool:

Yesterday was the first day of early voting where I live and they were covered up. It's not over!

It's just a case of the lying liberal media trying to convince the simple minded not to vote.

Of course it does not matter to me cause I sold all my guns without paperwork which I can legally do. That's my story and I am sticking to it. ;)

I can't even argue politics in a gun forum. Too many single issue voters. This is not a single issue election. The big picture needs to be looked at, I guess unless you own a factory that makes 30rd clips or something. Not saying it isn't an issue, just saying there are many many many issues on the table and if you just look at the NRA ads to tell you who to vote for, I have no respect for you.

(QUOTE) "Paranoid? Do you realize how far to the Left congressional leadership is? Do you understand that the only barrier to all the far left legislation that Pelosi and Reid and their constituents have been pushing for the past two years has been a Republican president and the threat of fillibuster? After this election the Senate may have a fillibuster-proof 60 seats. Obama will sign every piece of legislation that comes out of Congress. They know they have a guaranteed 2 years to push through as much of their social engineering legislation as possible. You can bet that will include as much gun control, ammunition control, gun show control, etc etc etc etc. It's not paranoia. It's the way it's gonna be. There will be no check on it besides the Supreme Court (for now) and their decision on Heller was a scant 5-4 so there's no guarantee they would rule in the future in our favor. Checks and balances will in effect not exist for at least 2 years."

What vonderek said.:(

This has been discussed in various forms in various threads so I don't see what this is going to add.

I will say "The election is effectively over." is patently absurd since there's a large undecided/independent segment of the voting public who are still struggling with who to vote for. If you actually care about who wins the election do what people have done for every election. Volunteer to help the campaign of your choice and focus on RKBA issues. Do this for any and every campaign in contest, not just the presidency.

I agree with rbernie -

ABD

Stands for Already Been Done...

I already own the Kalashniklone with 75-round drum and have for many years.
I call it my Commie Tommy or just "Annie" because it's just so much fun to shoot and is quite the little sure-shot.
Recently I purchased a semi-automatic handgun and an SKS.
A close female friend, a staunch Democrat changed her voting view, not because of Sarah Palin, but because I informed her that Obama wants a ban on ALL semi-automatics that would include guns like her heirloom .22 Marlin.

That was a priceless moment. Her eyes went:what:

She vowed then and there that McCain/Palin might not be the best answer for America but that some idiot who wanted to ban the type of gun she as a little girl had learned from her Grandpa how to shoot, well, let's just say there's one less vote going that way in this election...

I own guns and I vote. There's an estimated 93 million of us. Let your voice be heard in the halls of government this November.

As G.I. Joe troops always said:
"Knowledge is power, and knowing is half the battle."

I agree that its not over. I'm a college student, I know how my peers are (mostly really leftist and naive). The polls may be really artificially inflated by the political desktop commandos of our nations universities. My peers ARE lazy. I'd bet a significant amount don't show up at the polls for one of three reasons. 1) they forget 2)too lazy/have class that day 3)use the reasoning that "Obama is so far ahead there is no reason for me to vote"

On a second note, bad economic times are the perfect time to put gun control in place. The economy is doing poorly so crimes up... who's fault is it? GUNS! After spending so much on the bailout there will be less for all the planned social programs that dems want. What is there left to do? Implement social controls.

Oh yeah, no point in voting 'cause the polls say..... gimme a break, it aint over til it's over and the fat lady has sung her last aria. Anymore cliches?

I tell you what, back in the 1990s I got a bayonet-less barrel band for my carbine and a ten-shot magazine, then Dianne Feinstein said people who were complying with the assault weapon ban were merely trying to evade it. That is the last time I will ever compromise with the antis on the only issue I feel I fully understand. I will vote for the moose hunting barracuda if only to send a message. But I will vote, always have (and split ballot because there are good Dems and bad Repubs).

Barak is a Chicago-style Democrat and is the slickest willie ever slipped to us: he supported Daly's bans and now pretends he supports 2A.

As far as polls go, please read chapter 11 of Wright and Rossi, Under the Gun, Aldine 1983.

Any potential leader who does not trust me to retain the basic tools of self-defense has effectively told me that they DO NOT TRUST ME. I don't care what they promise after that, because it's irrelevant.

In my mind, I don't care about political parties or lobbying groups or what a given candidate says they'd do what in response to some event - it's about how they view me and their role relative to me. The RKBA is the most fundamental of human rights, and taking that away overshadows any other potential good.

Roger that.

As far as I'm concerned, Obama has said that the 2nd Amendment grants an individual right to bear arms, and has not laid out any policy proposals related to the right to bear arms. He's far from the extreme left in regards to gun ownership. In fact, I think he's content to let the courts sort it all out.

Here's something from OntheIssues that I basically agree with:

Ok for states & cities to determine local gun laws

Q: Is the D.C. law prohibiting ownership of handguns consistent with an individual's right to bear arms?

A: As a general principle, I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right, in the same way that we have a right to private property but local governments can establish zoning ordinances that determine how you can use it.

Q: But do you still favor the registration & licensing of guns?

A: I think we can provide common-sense approaches to the issue of illegal guns that are ending up on the streets. We can make sure that criminals don't have guns in their hands. We can make certain that those who are mentally deranged are not getting a hold of handguns. We can trace guns that have been used in crimes to unscrupulous gun dealers that may be selling to straw purchasers and dumping them on the streets.

I only have one comment on this subject?

WHO SAID IT IS A SURE THING, THAT OBAMA IS THE WINNER!!

Last I heard, we could still vote, and win. If you stay away because it might be true, then the fight is over!!

Vote! Even if you feel Obama is the right one!! VOTE!!

i bought what i want, 1 EBR is enough, im just stocking ammo while its still cheap.

i for dam sure dont want o-binladen but its looking like it might happen.

Johngalt....

Let's assume for a moment that you aren't an Obama shill....

And oddly enough, if you agree with Obama on anything, then Johngalt is the wrong name to use....

Obama has voted for EVERY anti gun peice of legislation ever to have come across his lying little fingers.

He is Lying to you and everyone else. And anyone who thinks that all of a sudden he sees the light doesn't understand the word.. pander....

Now, please shuffle off back to ACORN or whatever group sent you.

I won't do anyting out of the ordinary after the election unless there are signs that a AWB will be reinstated. Then I'll buy as many "listed" firearms as I can afford along with enough bullets powder & primers and a couple of presses

MODERATOR Notice: No bashing. Remember that you're here because the place is dedicated to civil discussion of firearms issues, even with people you disagree with and even about people you disagree with.

JohnGalt,

Please read the following and decide if you want to continue to stand by your first post.

Look at the Obama/Biden campaign website under "Urban Policy" and you'll find that their stated objective is to put in place a permanent AWB. Permanent.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

How can a politician that says he's a 2nd supporter that only wants common sense gun laws still support a permanent AWB? Only if it's his idea of a common sense gun law. How can a permanent AWB put in place by the Federal Government be consistent with letting State and Local government decide what they want to do? How can banning firearms be consistent with an individual right interpretation of the constitution?

Read the rest they say they will do and see if it's compatible.

Look at the written policy and not what they say or post elsewhere, for all policies, and then decide if you support their goals or not.

JohnGalt one post just to swoop in and save Obama? Oh the irony of the name.

I have noticed the complete absence of gun control and immigration as even topics allowed to be brought up. I am a lot more interested at the moment seeing how obstinate D.C. remains and if the courts will incorporate Heller in Chicago. Pat Buchanan wrote a reasonable assessment that if Obama wins he will have to disillusion his left base or the moderates he had to move toward to get elected. Either way as POTUS he won't be able to just smile and promise change and sing kumbaya for sure.

Another vote for VOTE! I do not want to give the socialist the huge expansion of federal power G.W.Bush has created. I would give it to the true John Galt to dismantle but not the apologist that just posted.

I already have a Mossberg 500 Tactical 12 gauge, a Molot VEPR 7.62x39 AK Sporter, a Yugo M70 B2 Underfolder AK and a Romanian Civil Guard AK (G Code). If I can, I'd like to pick up a nice AR before January, as well as a bunch more high-capacity magazines.

It would take a miracle for Obama to LOSE, not for McCain to win, but for Obama to lose. 98% of all media has crowned him President for the last 2 years, the propaganda regarding the "change" he will bring, has been non-stop, and McCain is nothing but a RINO, and hardly qualifies as a conservative. He is nothing but the lesser of the evils.

This one is probably over. I will keep hoping, but until then, I have purchased my AK in the last 3 months, I have loaded up on extra magazines, and a nice red dot, I am currently adding to my ammunition stores, and I will prepare to wage the battle against socialism, gun control, and all things ridiculous, that are to come in the next 4 years.
