The For Sale Pitch of "Rare"

Fun with disingenuous gun sellers:

"They aint makin' these any more"

"Only a few made"

Oh no. So it will be hard to get parts if I need them?

"They're gonna quit makin' these next month"

Oh no. What's wrong with them?

If 10% of us made such replies how long would it take before they stop this nonsense?

It's incredibly rare... notice the oxidized fingerprint, scratches along the sides, and extensive rusting. It was even stored for 4 years hanging on a nail in a leaky barn. Unique!

Lately, I've seen Norico SKS's being touted as "Rare" and "Collector Items" even after they've been sporterized to the point of absudity. Even Norinco AKs are being sold as collector items, even though the newer CAI AKs have all the "evil" features (bayonet lug and flash hiders) and the older Norincos don't.

Maybe in 20 years those CAI AKs will be commanding "Collector" or "Rare" prices.

Lately there's been a rash of folks touting their Norinco SKSs as "all matching". Really? Is it that surprising? I like the SKS just fine, but this is a case of people trying to turn a feature of nearly all Norincos into a selling point.

As for rare, it's always funny when you do a search on Gunbroker and see rafts of "rare" guns parked right next to eachother.
