The gun range seems empty these days.

If it’s new shooters that are practicing, I’ll never dissuade them of the notion that they needn’t. The more practice the better.

I’m not shooting much at the moment. I can’t afford to stockpile much, and I’m not a reloader.

I’m sure most of the indoor ranges near me are chock-a-block full, as the parking lots are stuffed whenever I drive by. But that also makes me not want to shoot there. Too many people.

Hi...
I don't see much change at the two gun clubs where I have memberships.
The one is primarily used by rifle shooters and there are usually people waiting to use one of the five benches available. The handgun range only has four stations and it can get crowded. This club only allows paper targets although they will bend the rules to slow shooting at clay birds placed on the berm at the handgun range.

The other club where I have a membership has about the same number of stations but has steel plates on the rifle and handgun ranges. Neither one is generally crowded, I have never needed to wait for a bench at either the handgun or rifle range. I generally shoot there on Sunday because that is typically the only day my son has off work, so that's when we shoot there. He prefers shooting at steel plates particularly when shooting handguns. He did buy a pretty nice steel plate set up of his own to shoot rifles at just so he doesn't have to share the same steel plate as other shooters. It's a bit of a hassle dragging it down range but that's what he wants.

The ranges near me have a waiting list.
I usually show up after noon and its usually starting to clear up a bit by then. Been this way since March.

Our members only range was shut dow mid March and reopened 3 days a week, out side only the end of july. Been there a couple times and was the only one. The gravel pit just down the road provided me with almost half of a 5 gallon can of brass. Methinks the locals just moved for the duration.

image.png Honestly, the price of ammunition is getting prohibitive. I just got this email and it's already sold out! 299/500 9mm range ammo. With shipping that comes out to 32$ per 50 round box. That's just plain wrong!

I only go to the indoor range ( its a private club) during the winter , luckily my girlfriends father has a piece of property where he use to run his logging business and we have a range set up there. There we have two boards set up for paper targets , and a old swingset with steel targets hanging from it. Not the most advance set-up , but it surely works for plinking and for having some fun.

Normally on weekends our favorite outdoor range is packed; expect a wait when you show. This past weekend - with 1/2 the lanes closed to implement social distancing - it still wasn't at capacity. RO I spent a few mins talking to said a couple months back it was madness. Guess now the ammo's gone.

What he said..our outdoor shooting area is closed for fire restrictions, no way I'm gong to be in an enclosed space these days, regardless of mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing...as soon as it gets wetter, up to the area me and my 2 sons will go..'maybe next month, October for sure...

The main reason I am not shooting that much is that it is WAY too hot; daytime highs are hitting upper 90 with humidity as high as the temps; even with fans under those carports, it is hot

This is the range I go to.

At the very very bottom of the screen is an archery range right where the road curves. Then there's a 200-yard rifle range. Then there's a hundred yard rifle range. Then three pistol bays. Then there's two open Bays that can be used for pistol classes and then there's another archery range at the top.

The bays on the left side of the picture are all for IDPA down the road on the right side of the frame is a path that people walk to do Sporting Clays.

I was out there for an hour and a half this morning and with the exception of two or three people in one of the open base doing the class I was the only person on all those ranges.

I loved it. It was great

That reminds me. When I was putting my range bag away this afternoon I found a case of Blazer 115 grain 9mm that I forgot I had.

Read about the temp/humidity (most days) here in the Memphis area. At least we are not on the Gulf Coast.

Stand in narrow shadows after about 4:00 on Action pistol ranges, under small trees on the western side "divider berms". Even with Lots of stored ammo, it's not much fun now.

For inspiration, a solid gun battle in "the Walking Dead" can create motivation to overcome the sweat-soaked safety glasses and eyebrows..

I have watched THE WALKING DEAD since episode #1 and am unaware of any solid gun battles." :neener: They are all ...... TV. :barf::cool:

My range is still going strong, at least it is whenever I walk out back to shoot :D

The only times I hit public ranges is during matches and those seem to be doing well at least on match days. A couple weeks ago the 3gun club where I shoot added slots in each squad due to demand for that match. So I guess it's not all doom & gloom everywhere.

It seems like the local range has been pretty busy. At least until the temperature hits 90. I've slowed down some as work has picked up.

All local ranges here are Busy. I went Wednesday and went right in. I asked about the slowest days and got "You Just Hit It. Most everyone has been having to Wait".

Tommygunn: true, gun battles on TWD must be pretty fake. Yet the variety of guns can be inspirational?

For motivation to get out into hot, humid days, some veterans say that certain street tactics in “Heat” appear realistic.

Our ranges are always full. Weekdays are now as busy as weekends used to be, and I won't even try going near the places on weekends. You would think that with the ammo shortage, people would have run out of ammo to shoot. Maybe it's waning a bit, but still crowded.

Here's some real life motivation for you.

Since the insane left started their carnage, Ironically have had some serious laughs over they group above. NFAC which stands for Not F'ing Around Coalition is hilarious. Go online and look them up. The leader Grand Master Jay say's he and his elite group of well trained former military are going to take over the state of Texas. One of the group in the picture actually has his scope on backwards. One is carrying a AR15-22 with a casing jammed in the rifle. And then check out the day they had a accidental discharge and shot their own.

I have memberships to three ranges. Usually they have about three people at the range. Newbies with one box of ammo. Just was there yesterday. Felt sorry for one young lady. She went to the counter to buy a gun and asked for a Glock. The guy at the Counter presented a 43X to her for around $750. She had no experience at all and did not even want to hold the gun. She told the Clerk that she was hoping to pay around $500. He said it was out of the question due to the what ever is going on. He did not offer any alternatives. I wanted to help her, but did not want to get involved between the Clerk and his business.

Spent about 4 hours at the range yesterday. There was one shooter there when I arrived but he left after about 30 minutes. One other man showed up for 30 minutes. It was pretty nice having the range to myself. I sighted in a new red dot on my AR. Sighted in my new Mauser in 6.5 CM and plinked with my cz 22. It is a lot of fun shooting golfball sized spinners at 50-75 yards. 100 yards is a little harder.

Been going to my LGS to do some shooting last coupe weeks. The sound of silence is pretty much what ya hear these days. They have some guns in the cases and some on the wall, but man are they pricey. Ammo is all but gone. They don't have any to sell for the range if someone needed it. Let alone if a gun was purchased.
I walk in ask for a lane and go shoot. They have several lanes. All were empty but 3 stalls. And this is every time I come in to shoot. Either folks are out of ammo to shoot, or just setting on theirs and not shooting.
That is sad.

ranges here have been overcrowded...odd

soon they will run out of ammo, even the NRA range apparently ran out of 9mm

everyone bought the Federal HST hype and now their block19s are empty
