Sorting through stuff I can see that I can put together an AR-15 lower. It could be a nice lower - I've got an unused Hogue grip, a new M4 stock or an A2, an RRA winter trigger guard and either a Jard adjustable single stage trigger or a Chip McCormick trigger, as well as all the rest of an LPK. This'll be the last AR as I'm clearing out the accumulated stuff, but I'm not sure what to put on top.

I've got 16" and 20" 5.56s, .45 ACP, 7.62x39 and .50BEO ARs. 6.8 seems like a possibility, but ammo is a bit of a hangup there as it's expensive if you don't (as I don't as of yet) reload. The Beowulf may push me in that direction, but I'm not there yet.And it would seem like putting together a 6.8 would inevitably lead to seeking some kind of probably costly optics, unless I want to share with another gun.

Another option is 9mm; it's cheap but I don't know if I'd not need another buffer and/or hammer. 22LR just doesn't rev my engine for some reason.

Whaddya think?

If you have a DPMS hammer it will work fine for 9mm. If not, you can have M60Joe ramp your bolt and just about any hammer will work with it. There are a few guys in the pistol cal forum at arfcom that ramp bolts as well. You dont have to use a 9mm buffer, but it does smooth it out quite a bit.

I do agree that .22lr is boring, however I still plan on putting one together. A box of 550 remington GBs was less than 12 bucks last time I was a wallyworld, quite a bit cheaper than .223 or 5.56. I figure in three or four boxes, it will have paid for itself. My 9mm has probably paid for itself two or three times.

Why not build a 6.5 Grendel? 6.5 ammo is way cheaper than 6.8SPC (Wolf brass-cased for $11/box) and it has better ballistics at pretty much any range out to 1000 yards.

I built one to fill the gap between my 16" .223 ARs and my .308 bolt guns, but it may end up displacing both! :)

You're in an NFA friendly state, you could build the pistol cal AR I want, an SBR with a DEA upper. Not cheap, but also not your run of the mill "me too" AR.
