I like your design, hartmen, but I'm a bit concerned about the sheer line of the wood immediately behind the trigger guard. It seems like the application of a linear force, such as recoil, would create a torsional force in this area, and put the grain of the wood under extension. In other words, if the stock were homogenous, such as a synthetic stock, you'd be okay; but wood has an inherent weakness when an extension force is applied perpendicular to the grain. (If I am unclear, the fault is my own for being unable to articulate this concept, so I apologize in advance.) May I suggest, in the interest of safety, trying out a scaled-down version of your design on a small scrap of pine or balsa before proceeding?
