Do you think that the next AWB will somehow prevent you from allowing your children to inherit your AWs upon your death?

It will only happen if we let it. I will do everything that I can to make sure that it doesn't happen, which isn't much if I am by myself. If all gun owners united, then it definitely wouldn't happen again.

It depends on the outcome of 1) Heller and 2) the Election.

If Heller goes for an individual right and McCain wins, NO.

If Heller goes against an individual right and Obama wins, there will be an AWB by this time next year.

And the next assault weapons ban probably wont' be cosmetic, and it likely will involve smelters.

Get _that_ through your heads. This is NOT a profit opportunity, or a "buy it before you can't" opportunity.

I don't think there'll be one. I think we'll win Heller. I think we'll try to open up the MG registry and then the antis will be in full defense mode against that. AWs will drop off their radar. They'll have REAL assault rifles to complain about.

I honestly expect one. None of the candidates are friendly to guns. I don't have any faith that McCain will help gunowners any more than Obama or Hillary. He is worse than them both combined in my opinion. There was one real progun canidate but his chances are dismal.

As far as Heller, I do suspect it will go in favor of gunrights but not as we want it to go. I suspect the ruling will be very limited in nature. I would love to see the machinegun registry reopen. I also would like to remind everyone that the great conservative himself, yes Ronald Reagan, betrayed us.

:banghead:

I don't have any freaking assault weapons.

I have a number of rifles, handguns and a shotgun or two, but not one single assault weapon.

:banghead:

In my belief he is worse than them for other reasons. My fault for not clarifying. As far as second amendment issues he is not much better. As far as everything else, he is the anti-christ for all I am concerned.

I don't own a single intermediate caliber , select fire, military style rifle, so I shouldn't have a problem leaving my weapons to my kids

Meef - I know that. You know that.

However, if our legislators want to call our rifles Assault Weapons, we might as well refer to them as such for the sake of a specific discussion regarding their future.

I don't own any Assault Weapons either. I have a couple ARs, some Glocks, and more.... but no assault weapons. Our legislators would disagree with me.

Point taken.

I just can't seem to keep myself from knee jerk reacting to the "assault rifle/battle rifle" things that pop up around here with irritating regularity - much like a chronic hemorrhoid.

Your position is much more sensible/reasonable than those.

Mea culpa.

There are no AWBs coming in the near future. Neither major party can brag about the intellectual brilliance of their politicians these days, but even these dullards are smart enough not to take on the gun owners lobby again any time soon.

You're probably right. They'll skip the whole AWB issue altogether and just go after ammunition in the form of taxes (to offset emergency room costs of course:scrutiny:), microstamping(to solve crime:rolleyes:), and lead free bullets (its for the condors and children and other endangered species:banghead:)

Forget the AWB, the Socialist Republic of California is where the future lies. Banning lead ammo is the only way to cut the legs out of hunters and gun enthusiasts. Banning lead from waterfowl hunting sounded like a benign problem but it was only the beginning.

I know companies are already coming out with non-lead substitutes, but the cost of that means we pay more.

...and don't forget the bills that are trying to get ammo under the CPSC.

Be Careful With The Term 'assault Weapon;

It is the Anti-crowd who called our rifles 'Assault Weapons'. /Assault weapons by their nature are automotic, not semi-automatic. I don't own any assault wepons' - I own 'Sport Utility Rifles'

Unless I'm mistaken, technically it's assault rifles that are automatic weapons.

Assault weapons was a non-existent phrase coined by the media because they couldn't call them assault rifles and not be called on their error. So I guess they figured, "Well call them something that sounds almost the same and 99.9% of the public won't know the difference."

Ironically enough, the only assault I see is the assault on the 2A by coining the phrase "assault weapons."

In any case, my specific concern is - assuming there is an AWB, could we pass on our already owned firearms to our children, etc.

Don't get me wrong here. I'm very active in being pro 2A and trying to make my voice heard in Washington and local politics. I'm just proposing a hypothetical and a related question here.
