There won't be another one. Why, you say? Because we're not going to sit around on our butts and let it happen, that's why! We're goung to flood our representative's offices with letters, emails and phone calls and we're going to tell all our friends and families to do likewise.

You're probably right. They'll skip the whole AWB issue altogether and just go after ammunition in the form of taxes (to offset emergency room costs of course), microstamping(to solve crime), and lead free bullets (its for the condors and children and other endangered species)

That does seem to be the latest scam by the Brady Brains. It's got to be a sign of desperation because it is such a ridiculous notion from almost any point of view.

They're trying it but once Heller is settled it should just about time for these feather heads to go back into the closet.Bob

Just remember this thread when you write in Ron Paul or Fred Thompson, or whoever.

If Hilbama is in office, it's a LOT more likely to happen. As it is, I think we're actually safer with Hillary than with Obama. And safer with McCain than with either of them, since I suspect he's had the Republican National Committee leadership have a few "come to jesus" meetings with him...

If the Democrats are in office, they're going to push for an "assault weapons" (and don't even try to nail down a definition - that doesn't matter) ban that is NOT just cosmetic or model numbers. It's gonna include everything from those little wasp-waist brownings on up...

Congress will do its darndest

I think that no matter who is elected President, unless it's Ron Paul, we're going to have another attempt at reviving the Assault Weapons Ban, especially if the decision in Heller doesn't favor individual rights. Since Ron Paul will not be elected President in this election barring extraordinary circumstances I'd say it's almost certain.

Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, John McCain. In the end it really makes no difference. Many involved in RKBA thought that George W. was going to be a friend to gun rights and yet he said that if a renewal of the AWB crossed his desk he'd sign it. Then, too, we also have the stand taken by the Solictor General during Heller.

The only way that a new AWB will be defeated is if everyone in the gun community comes together. That means hunters, people who only keep a pistol in their nightstand, black rifle owners, literally everybody. We also have to keep up the task of educating non-gun owners and bringing them over to our side, or at the very least, understanding and respecting us. New York has yet more anti-firearm bills pending. At least one of them makes reference to "assault weapons" and "spraying" to kill human beings. Sadly, much of the public doesn't understand that you can only "spray" with a machine gun and the guns in question are most certainly not machine guns.

Our enemy is ignorance, just as much, if not more so, than deliberate malice.

Tell me - what is an AWB? Surely you didn't use the bogus phrase that the antis made up to make us look bad in the TITLE of a thread, did you? :banghead:

Regardless of who the next President is, they're going to face a mountain of problems, created in the last 7.5 years, that will need fixing. Given the magnitude of these issues, I can't imagine any of the candidates looking for additional polarizing issues to further divide the electorate. So AWB will go to the far back burner, no matter who the Prez is.

I don't have any freaking assault weapons.

Last go-around on this issue, the Gov. of New Jersey labeled the Marlin Model 60 an assault rifle. That's why Marlin stopped making magazines out to the end of the 22" barrel: to drop magazine capacity from 18 to 14 to satisfy the New Jersey definition of an assault weapon.

If an AWB comes up, it will surprise a lot of people what gets re-defined as an assault weapon.

I don't think the Democrat winner would do anything in their first term, because it would guarantee there won't be a second term.

We must work to define our own utility rifles, to prevent the opposition from defining them FOR US.

If the NRA membership tripled or quadrupled in the next few years, meaning, that if everyone who did nothing but COMPLAIN about new gun laws got behind the organization that actually DOES something about them, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Remember that this month Hillary Clinton sent out a mailer saying how Obama was going to take our guns away. Hillary Clinton. This time, things are a lot different than 1994. We're on the winning side. Let's make them sweat about machineguns. This time next year, I want to hear about how "machinegun" is a misnomer, like "assault weapon". They're not machineguns, they're "selective fire weapons".

I have a feeling that they would attempt to make it as minimally invasive as possible. The more invasive it is, the more political turmoltuous it is and the more it hurts reelection bids. I would expect to see transfer restrictions, but not prohibitions.
