Yes, I'm a lefty and shoot lefty.
I am comfortable using my index finger, but with more and more striker fired pistols having ambidextrous controls I have been converting.
Mag releases can be compressed with your grip on some pistols. That is why I like to switch them.
I know that you can shave off the release to make it less likely.

My G20 gen5- I switched the magazine release and like the ambidextrous slide release.
My Kimber R7 has ambidextrous slide and magazine releases.
My XDM compact has ambidextrous magazine release. The new models have both mag and slide releases.

I wish I could switch my LCPII release. I have turned it into a single shot by hitting the release.... I think the LCP MAX can be switched?

I've only had a magazine drop on 1 pistol I own, a S&W SD9VE. It's not a primary carry gun and I think a metal mag release would solve that problem.

But if you like em ambi - go for it.

I’m thinking they might ban Glocks here in Washington. Why? because of the Glock Switches being used in more & more crimes. I’m just thinking like a Gun Banner! Always wanted a basic 19x, 20,

I purchased a Glock 20 gen5 a few months ago and I like it. So I was contemplating about buying another Glock for carry/range fun. I like the gen 5 models because; they have an ambidextrous slide release, a reversible magazine release, and don't have the finger groves like the gen4 models.

I have a micro compact 9mm.
I currently don't have a 40s&w.
I will probably buy a gen5 Glock 29 when they are available.

If you vote for a different Glock, please comment which one in a post

A Glock 19 is probably the most versatile for range and carry but also consider the Glock 48. Basically it's a single stack G19 but there's magazines you can get to bring it to the same capacity.

Congrats @WisBorn

I didn’t realize how old this thread was and almost voted “Other” and recommended the 43X or 48 as options.

I really did not like the G19s with finger grooves, but I shot a Gen 5 and really liked it. I think you made a good choice.

Get a .40 S&W barrel for the Glock 20 . I got a threaded one because a 10mm suppressed doesn't make sense. Also Glock 20 shoots .40 S&W just fine , only thing is the extractor is holding the shell into position instead of head space which is supposed to be hard on it. Get a Glock 29 when you do get a .40 barrel , or just shoot some .40 in it, I would get the barrel.

In a semiauto I don't think it's good idea to shoot 40smith in a 10mm. Reason being it headspaces off the mouth. I have a g22 and a g20 and when I dropped a 40 into the 10's barrel the base of the case goes deeper than the extractor can grab. On a revolver it's a different story because of the use of moon clips. I didn't say you couldn't shoot 40 in a 10 only didn't think it was a good idea. With that being said I once shot a 357sig in a 40smith by accident. Case ejected and the bullet hit the target at 50 yards. Bounced down the barrel just fine. Now I have a fireformed 40 ;) ?

Not quite on either. When you strip a .40 S&w round from the magazine the extractor grips onto it and holds it pretty much at correct position. If yo reread my suggestion I clearly said a.40 S&W barrel install is the proper way to go. It is never the correct thing to do, BTW, to " drop in " a round in the chamber of any semi gun because in most designs it is very hard for the extractor to snap over the rim . However like firing the occasional ..40 S&W round in a Glock 10 mm it can be done . I would wait till you get a Glock 29 before you get a barrel for .40 for it. The G 29 is pretty rude with most 10mm ammo without the mag extension finger grip. However it isn't bad as a .40. :)

The quote states you shot 40 in a 20 is where my reply came from.
I have. Zero problems as you could find online and even on THR if you search. The aftermarket.40 barrel I bought for $175 has other advantages like cut rifling which works better with cast bullets like I shoot a lot of in .40 guns . Also like I said I got suppressor threads. Also better case in chamber support. However for your needs I would say forego the G29 and get a G 23. They are same size as a G19 and readily available used LEO turn ins cheap.

I asked the question, next Glock? Back in the middle of July. At that time I had a Glock 20 gen5. I thought that I would add a Glock 29 gen5 when they came out.

I had decided to add the Glock 19 gen5 for my second Glock after the poll.
I had stopped in my favorite LGS and he was sold out of the G19 and was waiting for his stocking order to come in.
I got to looking around and picked up a XDM Compact 10mm and it felt really nice. I have a XDM compact 45acp (my favorite semiautomatic).
So I went ahead and bought the XDM 10mm.
After buying the XDM I started to save up for the Glock 19 gen5. My LGS buddy called when his order came in and I purchased the Glock 19.

After shooting the two 10mm's I don't see a lot of need to add a 40s&w. There is a lot of ammo for the 10mm that is loaded at 40 velocities. The savings on ammo is minimal and with having the 9mms, 10mms, and 45acp I have the bases covered.

I want to thank everyone that replied to the thread!!!
Safe shooting!!!!

My son has all my reloading and casting equipment in his heated basement and because of the nature of his work time to do it alot. He has my two Dillon presses and a couple large single stages set up on heavy duty benches and we crank out a lot of the calibers we shoot. He likes .40 for EDC so we cast and crank out lots of 180 grain .40 S&W with moderate powder charges to get around 900-1000 FPS depending on barrel length. Those bullets work in 10mm too , but the low powder charges are not quite enough in the 10mm pistol we have for 100% function , why I got a .40S&W barrel for the Glock 20 that was mine until I got a Sig Xten . I have other .40 S&W guns as does he and we prefer it for EDC unless special circumstances suggest a different choice.
You can't go wrong with a Glock 19 IMHO and many other professional users. Mine former one is a gen 5 dedicated suppressed night ranch defense one now in my sons hands . You just KNOW its gonna work , it is very pointable and very handy. The 147 grain subsonic hollow points expand well and most of the expected night intruders are not bears so it matches the game well. :)
The Glock 23 of course is the same size , and I have one of those for years .

I never thought I would want a 45acp due to bad 1911 experience, that was cured when I bought a g21. Accurate as hell! Although I like my g20 & 40, the g31 is my favorite!
