GM7RQK: nope, that's not it. The one I'm thinking of used cartridges, had an internal hammer, and had the barrels arranged like a pair of SxS barrels stacked on top of each other.

OK Balog, I can picture what your describing, a layout like the pepperpot

or the COP derringer, but with an internal hammer, you've got me there I can't say as I've seen that, sounds interesting though.

Yes, that's the exact layout I was describing. The pistol I'm thinking of was advertised as being perfect for backup on safari, and was quite powerful for the time period. It was popular at about the same time as the "Paradox" choke for shotties.

Hmm all the tranter pistols I knew off were revolvers allthough I did find mention of an over\under 2 barrel pistol so it's not out of the question.

OK just seen the lancaster you posted, yes that was pretty much the picture I had in mind, .476 cal, must have been quite a beast to hold onto with those little grips
