I have a friend that does them with insects. He first wraps the antlers in cling wrap, then very tightly in aluminum foil. Buries the whole thing during the fall hunting season. If you don't wrap the antlers the bugs will eat them too.I've tried the ant hill trick with zero success. We've got RED ANTS out here and they don't even think about it
Cover with a piece of plywood and put some weight on top so dogs or other animals don't dig it up. Takes until spring, but it will be clean.
He removes as much meat as possible before burying. Not fast, but it works quite well. The skull may take on some color from the dirt so it may have to be bleached.
I have a friend that attended the Entomology Department at Purdue. They had a big tank with scarab beetles. Said a skull in that tank overnight was whistle clean by morning. There's a guy around here that advertises a similar service.
Boiling in a pot with caustic sounds like the program. I like the pressure washer idea. Thanks
