The Return of TFL - The High Road's Future?

TFL was THE best. Then it ended. Oleg and a few others made THR for like minded people to have a place to go after TFL closedand they were terrifically successfull. THR has evolved into quite a nice place, and it won't go away. TFL will certainly gain back a lot of posters, but not many that will not be still checking THR every day.

I missed TFL terribly, but I would also miss THR terribly. I will do my best to provide helpful input on both.

As usual pax - voices reason.

Thank you pax.

Personally, "I ain't smart - I ain't a big deal" - I have typed that more than once here on THR - I will probably type it again.

TFL was one of the first forums I joined. I entered the world of Computers and Internet late in Life. Internet Forums were a totally new concept for me, they only ones I became a member of were gun forums.

I have made mistakes, Rich and others at TFL welcomed me and put up with me. They taught / continue to teach me by example. Yes I never quit using TFL.

Oleg and others welcomed me to THR, they have continued the tradition and quality of staying on The Highroad. Oleg and staff continue to teach me by example.

Many members here at THR were members at TFL. These members and many others have rec'd correspondence from me , be it an apology if I thought I was wrong. Support from me and anything else one can imagine. I have been honest and upfront.

-I have NOT participated in any recent negative posts of THR.

-I will NOT participate in any threads that even attempt to pit THR and TFL against each other.

I'm 49, maybe I'm getting older, maybe I'm finally learning something about Computers, Internet, and Gun Forums.
What I have always done is trust my gut, share life's experiences, and observations.

IT IS the people that make a place. NOT the building, title on door, decor, neighborhood.

Congratulations Rich , Markos and TFL Staff.
Congratulations to Oleg, and staff for taking Rich's challenge and meeting such challenge.

Thank you for having me.

If I can be of service, you know where to find me.

Anyone choosing to discuss this with me - take it offline. PM is for matters such as this. Same as one having a problem with THR,TFL owners, admins, staff or mods.

Its called taking The Highroad - learned from TFL.

FWIW there is a post at TFL and where I first saw "The Highroad" . It has nothing to do with a new Forum. It does have to with "Responsible Firearm Ownership".

More to responsible firearm ownership - than guns.

Regards,
Steve

Thanks for the heads up, it made me go check my email. There it was...TFL is back! I would guess Rich and Oleg have discussed this in detail. Two great guys with plenty of members to go around. And the best of luck to Marko... sehr gut, mein Freund.

I really hope TFL comes back in a big way. It is THE reason why i got into the RKBA issue in the first place. At the time it was also the catalyst for me realizing that certainly wasnt a liberal like i thought i was supposed to be (i started their when i was attending one of the most liberal institutions in an already very liberal area).

I shall try to remain ambivalent. Time is the big deal ... time enough to best support and enjoy one prime site ... too little time to support many.

Seeing as THR was a sorta ''natural progression'' after TFL went inactive . I am currently not so sure this is good news. Sure TFL was great .. and I was a mere lurker .. but - somehow .... feel there is only really room for one ... THR OR TFL ... guess we'll see.

Tuesday = ''toe in water'' day! :p

The two sites should just merge into "The High Firing Road Line" or something so we don't all have to keep going back and forth.

Seriously, it will be weird having both open again. But, we'll all get used to it. The more great gun sites there are, the better.

i dont understand why someone wouldnt go to both message boards. its not like the message board god sits you down and says 'pick one site for the rest of your life'.

Everyone who works at THR and is going to work at TFL is going to work at both. I don't see a conflict there.

For everyone who has a different email, contact a TFL mod with your username and your current email address and we can change it for you. That will allow you to change your password.

I'll visit TFL and see how they do things. TFL is staffed by friends. It also offers another chance to those who got banned from THR.

TFL played a crucial role in my education, and was a valuable resource even in its dormancy. But it is a mistake to think that everyone who we remember will return when they see the e-mail. I think that it may be great again, but I'm not making any evaluations of it before the posts start rolling in and I get a look at it. I'll certainly log in. Heck, I would log in when browsing, just because I liked to see the names of the members listed, but only time will tell what the new TFL will be like.

I'll also continue to frequent THR. My posting is way down lately, for most of the same reasons that cut into my range time, but I try to keep abreast of the issues and wisdom being stored here, just as I did with TFL. I'm looking forward to living in a world that encompasses both sites.

True enough Buy Guns ..... but my point is .. TIME!! It'd seem that unless you have all the time to yourself ... all the time ... then there is a limit to how much you can spread yourself around. That can be even more difficult if to all intents, two sites have almost the same objectives and format.

I find it is good to be able to call one site, the primary - and ''home''.:)

Gee Chris, even "I" can multi-task at times.
Heck sometimes I even get it right. :D

This ought to be good...I'm the guy that posts the reply in Shotguns to the wrong thread. Or I try ( wanted) to post a reply toa TFL thread when THR had server problems...and I "may" or "may not" have tried to cut and paste from Cisco my research information to a THR thread in a post here.

Gee, ain't 'puters and 'net great!
:D

So I'm curious, what's the difference in site missions going to be between TFL and THR? I had always thought THR was supposed to be a replacement for a closed-down TFL, and held a nearly identical mission.

I was never a member of TFL, but I'm open to new places and things...although my girlfriend is another story. If she finds out I'm frequenting another gun forum, I'll be single for sure. I've got my fingers crossed that I can hide my excitement. ;)

Chris

I'm 'onery' already. :D

Just your resident Practical Relic member here. At the rate I'm going - it will not take 10 yrs to catch up to you my friend.

sheesh, we will have to keep up with one another no matter where we are Chris.

I have two different usernames...two different passwords. If one had told me 5 yrs ago I'd have so many user/acct names and passwords, I'd have laughed.

I would been surprised at the # of friends I'd be making, the knowledge passed my way as well from these two forums as well.

I Know, I'll get another username and use for both with same password.
:p My luck I'll have a brain fade and will not be able to get into either forum.

[hey we got folks cheering over that thought] :)

OK, I'm logged back in for the 1st time in 18 months

I've got a bad habit of taping passwords to the computer desk (drives the wife nuts and it ain't exactly secure either) and danged if the TFL password isn't exactly where I taped it those many years ago. Heck, I even updated my email address.

I am looking forward to spending time at both forums and I like the idea of complementary sights.

Not that anyone cares but I'm Keifer there.

Think either set of mods would let me unify my name?

pignock

Are you sure you're keifer over there? I didn't see one in the member registry.

I never registered over at TFL. It looks like it will be tuesday before I can. Although Pax and Oleg have hinted at why, I guess we will have to wait and see how this all plays out. I have mixed feelings about this

edited for creative spelling:D

Well, I joined THR after TFL went offline, so i don't really know what it was like to be a member there. But I know that i've really enjoyed being a member of The High Road, and I sincerely hope it remains open for a long time to come. There is a great volume of information here, and a very likeable group of people to chat with. :)
