That is beautiful. May I ask what the cost was?

The work Clements did was about three hundred+shipping. The grips were $450 and made by a friend. The cost of the ram horn grips is in getting a piece of horn large enough for two grip panels. Also the material is not super easy to work with.....lots of work. The work Clements did was flawless....the action is just like butter. Just shot balls so far, and hoping that when I move to a BigLube bullet the sight will be tall enough. The El Paso holster is very nice and fits the revolver perfect.

Maybe you should have waited on the final sight blade until you got the needed height figured out. You can make a sight blade (no gold) out of a piece cut from 1/8" flat stock they sell at the hardware store.

Any relation to the (in)famous Tom Horn?

Thanks for the thoughts. The front sight is pinned so a change up could be fairly easy. The bullet that I would like to use would be a 180/200 grain so I think I will be okay. Also the gold bead shows up a little better for old eyes and makes a front sight placement adjustment a little easier. No relation to Tom except the sadness of the time when he peaked.....the world became politically correct around his old west ways. Sound familiar?

Need a nipple wrench

Can anyone help. I am in need of a ROA Nipple Wrench. Would like to buy one but would settle for a lend to change out nipples if need be.

BullSlinger

Bullslinger : The best is to get a 3/16 socket driver with a plastic handle from any good hardware store. Get a quality one with a name brand. Then you file it nice and flat, as they are always rounded on the edge-tip. Reason for that is to grab that sucker good and tight ! [that nipple] and it will never ever slip. The one supplied by Ruger is nothing more then an afterthought piece that always slips and rounds out your nipples. Who ever decided to throw that piece in with the ROA in a little brown mini manila envelope was most likely given a $1.00 dollar raise in salary by Bill Ruger himself. "Good boy, great idea, now back to work Bud" and a pat in the back. Why hustle when perfection is just a trip and a few bucks to your hardware store. Cherish those "nipples" ......don't forget now, Ruger no longer makes them, has them and may no longer ever have them again. I use 'aftermarket' nipples, and save my 'originals' for the day I take them up to those Pearly Gates up there. They wont let me in if its not original all the way !! Don't want to upset Bill at the "Thunder Range" when he is the range master ! ...... Oh by the way, T. Horn....oh my that 5 1/2 sighted ROA is one hell of a piece !! Dave is really The Man when it comes to ROA mods !! Enjoy it well and shoot that 10 ring out of the paper !!

Thanks for the advise. I own three ROA's and the latest is the only one that I have problems getting nipples out of. Others were fitted with aftermarket nipples. Will wack on a 3/16 socket and get em out of the latest.

Another ROA

I recently purchased another ROA at a really good price and took it to the range. Wow what a tack driver, at 10 meters the gun was dead on.
Used 25gr of Old E and a lubed wad and 457 rb.

Have you tried different powder charges?

Mine, using both 3F Olde E and T7, give me the best groups using 35 grns in my 7.5" model.

That seems to be the best load I have found for my ROAs when using Old E or Alliant MZ. I use 30 when using Goex or Pyrodex. Elevation is 5400 ft and that may play into it.

May I join? I just got back from Cabelas with a very nice (98-99%) blued 7.5" ROA with fixed sights. I prefer to buy used guns only if I can inspect them before purchase. This one had no visible rust or corrosion anywhere and had good lock-up and was, at most, very lightly used. I was able to get it for $265...I think I got a good deal on it. Tuesday will be my range day for this gun and a couple of other C&B revolvers (Uberti 1860 Army, Uberti Rem 1858 NA). Stay tuned.

Best regards,

FH

PS-Having downloaded the manual, I now have to go back to Cabelas, or Bass Pro, to get .457 balls.

"Balls" said the Queen, "if I had 2, I'd be King!"

PPS-My other C&B revolvers do wonderfully with .454 balls

Try your new .457" balls in those other pistols. Many claim the slightly greater bearing surface improves them.

robhof

You got a great deal on your ROA, as the prices have been going up since they officially stopped making them and aren't stocking parts anymore. The good news is there are parts usually available at auction sites, even Ebay, and the guns are built like tanks. I've used both .454 and 457 balls with equal success. I have some Classicballistix cylinders that have slightly larger cylinders and the .454's creep with heavy loads, so I only use .457's or conicals with them.
