I am lokking for a cheap 30.06 rifle that is beetween 200-300 $. I have heard that the Stevens Model 200 is a good cheap rifle. Is there any other suggestions.

that's what I Would buy. you might also try a handi-rifle. (single shot) I would also try pricing out the smith and wesson i-bolt and the marlin xl7. you might find one in your range. you could also try the surplus rifle route. the mosin, enfield, etc. not 30/06 but cheap.

It's not exactly apples to apples, but I bought a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08 for my son to hunt with this year. It is a very nice shooter with a couple of rough edges. It needed a trigger job and the stock needed to have the mold flashing trimmed off to eliminate some sharp places. Having said that, it shoots very well. I was able to keep 3 shot groups under 1'' at 100 yards with the first load I tried. It is lightweight and easy to carry. From a design perspective the only problem I have with it is the magazine. It is non-removable and slightly hard to load to full capacity. All in all it was well worth the money. Oh yeah.....my son likes it too.

Go for the Stevens 200. I've got one in 300 Magnum, and it's an accurate rifle excellent for deer hunting. They're cheap, ugly, but can shoot as well as some rifles up to the $600-$800 range.

For about the same money I like the new Marlin bolt rifles a lot more than the Stevens or Savage.

I put an E-Z Pull trigger assist($34 from Cabelas) on mine. Made a BIG difference in the trigger pull. A lot of take up though.

I have a Stevens 200 in 30-06. Love it. And I painted the stock because its damn ugly.

"...the Stevens Model 200 is a good cheap rifle..." It's a good inexpensive rifle. 'Cheap' isn't the same thing. $356 MSRP is hard to beat, but you'd have to buy a scope, have it mounted and bore sighted. Add a few hundred for a decent one.
A Savage Model 111FCXP3's package MSRP is $499 with a low end but serviceable scope. They're pilar bedded too.
Mind you, if money is an issue, buying a used rifle isn't a terrible thing. You really have to work hard at damaging a modern commercial hunting rifle. And your local gun shop may have something you'll like, at a good price, soon. Just after the local deer season, all kinds of good used rifles with scopes appear in local shops.

The stevens 200 is the savage without the accutrigger. anything you can do to a savage you can do to a stevens.

Also try out the mossberg ATR.

And be sure to check out pawn stores and Gunbroker for used deals. Often you can get used Stevens for well under $200, especially in 30-06 (which is not the flavor of the week in caliber choices)

Another option would be the Marlin XL-7. Right around the same price point, and in the same ballpark in the accuracy area...

Cheers... I have one of each... love them both...
