It turns out that it is a relief cut for additional debris tolerance under the extractor claw purposely put there by Glock.
I must have missed when and from where that "turned out". Did you contact glock? Where is that info from?

Wispa said:All he was able to tell me was that it's there on purpose but he doesn't know why.

I think I can do a better job of summing this up ....
1. The existence or lack of a "relief" cut has no affect on reliability or longevity
2. The "relief" cut is merely an aesthetic issue
3. Glock doesn't want a bunch of picky Glock owners demanding a new pistol merely for aesthetic reasons
4. Glock puts out a "win-win" explanation of "we don't know why it's there but it's there for a purpose" to appease the masses
5. The masses are so inebriated on Glock-Aid that they'd believe any "reasonable" explanation including it's where a US Government GPS nanochip was cut out by the nice folks at Glock
There ... DONE!!! And all this time, I thought that a GLOCKENSPIEL was a musical instrument!!

I don't own any Glocks but I've shot a bunch and they're excellent pistols. I wouldn't give that "feature" a second thought. In fact, given the choice of having one "with" or "without", I'd choose "with" ... makes the breech face interesting. Enjoy your pistol and well done for taking the gentle (friendly) ribbing in stride. Go Glock!!
2. The "relief" cut is merely an aesthetic issue

Well it does measure 3.14159265mm...hmmm.
How do you interpret my statement of "The "relief" cut is merely an aesthetic issue" to mean what you said above. Why not learn to read and understand English before you make a post.

I hardly think Glock milled that cut for beauty's sake. Especially since the relief cut is not readily seen when the slide is in battery.
