They want your ammo - Voters should have paid attention.

Only a fool would say that obama doesn't want to restrict your guns.

This is true and I never said that. I merely said that it is not politically practicable, and Obama knows it.

I think it was some moron in Birmingham that introduced it back in the very early spring. The stupid bill died a week after the public became aware of it. I personally called Hinton Mitchum's house and left a message telling him that I'd never vote for the sorry gas bag again if I learned he let that bill out of comittee.

It died a quick death :D

For the polyanna's, I heard alot of this stuff in the early 90's... "they aren't going to ban anything, what are you afraid of". Here we are today, voted in the first fully Dem. Congress and Dem Pres. since 92....with several gun control bills already written and just waiting to be voted on or being voted on already. Makes me feel so much better for you to tell me "not to worry, they'll never vote for it/them/whatever".....just like in 92

As opposed to Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr who all passed a variety of anti gun laws while they were president? Most of the worse laws in California only got in because of Reagan starting the ball rolling as Governor as was almost single handedly responsible for the Brady act passing with his lobbying support. Really enough of the bs that all Democrats hate guns and want to ban them and it is only by voting Republicans that gun rights will be saved trash, because that all it is.

The Democrats of 1992 are gone and many more members of the party are more than willing to fight for gun rights, just as happens with Republicans, and there is a small amount on either party against them. Nothing big is going to happen either way with gun rights and the fear mongering only does one thing. Raise the prices as people go out and panic buy everything in sight. We don't have to spend our whole lives living in fear of every crackpot suggestion being passed by a guy wanting to play on it to make a quick buck. It was bad enough when flag sellers did it.

What anti-gun bills did Nixon, Reagan, or George W. pass?
There was one bill that Reagan passed that could be considered remotely "anti-gun", but that bill was NRA backed. It stopped things like registration and ensured you could travel with your gun, but later a bill banning production of new full-autos was added in. The NRA still backed it, and depending on who you ask, they told Reagan they would challenge that addition in court.

Of course this is covered by the "infringed" part of the Second Amendment and the NRA could stop it in court. However those states that do this deserve it for not throwing out those who write these laws up.

Someday the NRA needs to go after these people for taking away our constitutional rights and have them jailed. That would stop all the crap comming out of government.

The core issue is that the Bush Administration crapped up so badly that gun issues became secondary.

You can't get around that. Trying to win an election based on a Southern based gun owner's strategy of being more conservative isn't going to work if the administration and its heir presumptive are seen as incompetent on many dimensions. The 'values voters' lost their moral stance and just seemed hateful to many.

Worrying about AWB and ammo bans is not going to win elections if the rest of the game sucks.

If Obama manages to get the economy and the wars in decent shape, the gun lobby will be terribly marginalized as a fringe issue.

The RKBA needs a reconceptualization of strategy - which I don't seem coming, sadly. I just see the choir talking to themselves without vision.

Correct. We have George W. Bush to thank for Obama. If he had not created such a disaster in office, then a Republican could have won this year. Instead, he sullied the name of his party, and opened the door for the Democrats. If it weren't for his incompetence we wouldn't have $2,000 WASR-10s.

You guys may not notice things like this but it was the Democrats turn to get elected. That's the way it works, your vote doesn't matter because it's all set up before the phoney elections happen....

Look even with Clinton getting impeached he still got his 8 years in office. What you are witnessing is total corruption of our country and the gun controls comming are going to finish off our freedoms.

You guys can talk demo and repub all you want but they are as corrupt as humanly possible. If you want to save your gun rights it's going to have to be on a local level.

with Democrats and Republicans?:uhoh:

Sorry had to say it...:neener:

Third party all the way for me from now on. Both sides have been steadily trashing the Republic for decades. It's time for something else.

That's right, Dems and Pubs are two sides of the same coin. Just like two crime families that oppose each other, but will join forces to protect their racket.
Vote Libertarian, the TRUE conservative party.

Depends what you mean by Libertarian. True libertarians are not in accord with social conservative agendas which are very controlling of personal behavior.

So what is conservative - social, economic, the rights perspective?

All are in play.

plan one, the riot

if they even try to pass a stupid gun law, ill be in dc on the whitehouse front lawn protesting, if that fails, ill start a riot

p.s. this is how i study for school :banghead:

It would behoove you to spend a bit more of that study time on proper sentence structure and all of its related components.

we dont need no, education

the government is brainwashing the youth to blaim everyone else

I say let'em have our bullets. One at a time......
MOLON LABE

So..... were you going to write your elected representative, or donate to a pro-gun organization, or take some newbies shooting for the first time?

Or were you just planning to shout to the Internet how tough you are?

Words are cheap, and just writing your rep or sending off a check takes only slightly more effort and gets a lot more results. Are you in a state with a proposed ammo-registration bill? Have you actually done anything about it?

I really wish people would quit blaming this on Obama (not that I like him, but place blame where it's due) but this has been in process since way before Obama was in office. Heck, this didn't even start with government - rather it's being pushed on the government who have so far slapped it down.

If you read the articles on that page this is none other than a couple schmucks from Seattle trying to make money off an encoding process that they patented but then couldn't get any ammo manufacturers to buy into.

Even the police don't think it will do any good.

“Mace and Ford spent four and a half years and about $200,000 securing the patent for their ammunition tracking system. But once that patent was in place and they had formed a company, the unambiguously named Ammunition Coding System, to market the product, they couldn't find a manufacturer willing to consider stamping their bullets. So they focused their efforts on convincing lawmakers”

“Richard O'Neill, president of the Seattle Police Officers' Guild, says incidents like the police shooting that inspired Ammunition Coding are rare, and he's doubtful it would significantly benefit crime solving.”

If you want to be pissed off at anybody for this, be pissed at the guys pushing the legislation and their lobbyists ability to enact laws with no other intent than lining their pockets.

Since the original issue from the OP was resolved about sixty posts ago, I'm going to go ahead and close this thread down as done. If anyone doesn't understand why, I suggest going to the BEGINNING of the thread and reading forward.

The issue here is a non-issue, and at this point we're all just ranting about a problem that isn't a problem and beating our chests for no good end.

If anyone hears of a particular state that passes this bill out of committee and onto the floor for debate, please feel free to open a new thread with that specific new information.
