Thinking About a Tavor

OP: I like mine a lot. It handles well and the ergonomics are top-notch. I haven't shot groups but it's solidly minute-of-man at 300 yards with bulk 55gr ammo.

Compared to my other bullpup (FS2000), it has a bolt hold-open and the mag release is much quicker. The FS2000 is lighter though.

The low point is the trigger. It's heavy and gritty. You can reduce the weight by unhooking one of the trigger reset springs (google it), but that only takes it from 12# to 9#. For more improvement you can get a replacement from Timney or send it to Bill Springfield for a tune-up (I opted with the latter, much cheaper).

Any owners or users with some first hand experience / thoughts you would share?
I kin tell ya a bit...well, everything 'cept how it shoots :what:(waiting for silencers and this humidity to clear out)!

After I purchased my silencers (still in NFA jail for another month?), I started thinking about a SBR - didn't take much research to come up with the following reasons to go with a 16" Tavor (at under $1,700).
1. Shorter than a SBR AR (unless you've got a really, really short AR, in which case 223 ballistics go all to hell).
2. I live in VA, my gun club is in NC - with a SBR, I'd have to fill out / wait for yet another piece of "mother may I" paperwork from the ATF in order to transport across the state line.
3. Price not that different than an AR, 'specially if it was a piston AR - not to mention another $200 for a tax stamp! (not that I particularly care for piston ARs).

It seems like a quality piece, and the fact that it takes AR mags is definitely a plus - got a couple of Magpul 30-rounders with a Magpul Magazine Coupler.
I've been eyeballing bullpups for years, but they never really quite hit the mark for me until the Tavor.

I don't think the weight is bad at all - it may weigh more than an AR, but compare the weight to a piston AR (more apples to apples?) and I'd be willing to bet it weighs less (based on some of the piston ARs I've held).
The weight on the Tavor is also located more to the rear, so it's not like having extra weight hanging way out there - weight near the shoulder is not nearly as tiring.

I splurged a bit and added the Mepro MOR (now that sucka adds some weight!), and got the correct length cable for it from Mako in order to mount the pushbutton where the OEM plug is on the foregrip.
(If I hadn't gone the MOR route, probably would have installed a Trijicon SRS).
I also added a CAA flashlight mount with a Streamlight ProTac HL - mine now looks like the 3rd and 5th pictures at the slideshow on the main page at www.iwi.us, minus the exposed cable and VFG (my flashlight is also longer). I could lose a little weight going with a non-metal flashlight, but I had the ProTac HL, and I did need the extra length of the flashlight in order to place the tailcap pushbutton close at hand.

Got the VFG, but haven't yet mounted, and don't know that I will since I have the pushbutton for the sight mounted in the foregrip.

I've also added the FLEx Swivel - they tell me you'll need it to avoid "Tavor Face", 'specially when shooting suppressed.
The QD sling mounting point for the FLEx is nice (mounted in the forward position). If you're using the Magpul MS4 sling in it's single point configuration, the OEM QD mount on the Tavor is so far to the rear of the gun that it hangs way too low - using the QD point on the FLEx fixes that little problem.

Now that I've got it all tackied up, nuttin' much left to do but make it to the range!

I'm not particularly trigger sensitive, so I have no plans to modify the trigger - this may also replace my current HD AR, so I'd just as soon leave the factory trigger alone.

Why would you go with a 16 or 18 inch barrel?
I chose 16" to keep it as short as possible.

Probably not much / any difference AFA accuracy, and it is a bit of a short(er) range gun, isn't it?

The difference in 55gr M193 between 16" barrel and a 20" barrel is around 150fps. That is around a 1.5" difference in drop and a 0.6" in a 90deg 5mph crosswind at 300yds. So the 18" barrel will be slightly flatter shooting; but probably not dramatically so.
