Went to my local gun shop yesterday after a crappy range day.........buddy who works there almost has me talked into a trade......my Glock17 and Taurus PT99 for a new Beretta 92........now my Pt99 I shoot great, and it's just like the Beretta(made in the old Beretta factory, but it IS aTaurus)and I love my G17,but havn't been able to shoot it like I want.......I've always wanted a Beretta, and everyone I've shot I shoot as good as the PT99.....what would you do????There's something to be said about sticking to one gun(this would be for IDPA and HD not CCW)
I'm leaning toward keeping waht I have now and just learning to shoot the G17 better...........but the Beretta was REAL NICE.......what to do????:(

DON'T TRADE..................You will regret it soon afterward. That is an upside down trade anyway. I've had Beretta's and Taurus PT 92 and 99. I much prefer the Taurus because of the frame mounted safety. The Taurus will shoot every bit as well as the Beretta anyway.

Youll be giving away your Glock and getting really nothing for it. The "Taurus reputation" is complete BS and the guns are just as nice in 99% of the cases. This is especially true with the steel PT guns.

Taurus made their first Beretta copies on Beretta's equipment, using their steel and parts........just something to think about.

The Taurus has a better safety than MOST guns out there also.

Shoot well.....................

Another vote for "Don't do it." Look at having a simple buff and fluff done on the 17. Although it's not for everyone I did one myself on my 24 and it made the trigger much more consistant and easier to shoot accurately.

Oh, and never sell/trade a gun off if you can shoot it well. You never know what you'll get in return. There are lemons in every brand and model. I keep thinking I should trade off my Taurus 669 but it's my only wheelgun and a previous owner had a trigger job done and it's probably the 2nd most accurate handgun I own next to my Buckmark 5.5 Target.

I don't know whether you put much stock in GUN TESTS MAGAZINE, but they actually liked the Taurus version of the Beretta 92 BETTER than the Beretta version a year or so ago.

I love the fit and finish of Berettas (having had both the 92 and 96), but they aren't that much nicer than the Taurus.

They're basically the same gun, and there's not much the Beretta will do that the Taurus won't do as well -- except hold resale value. (And since you'll be taking a big reaming when you make the trade, that's already a non-starter.)

The Glock should be worth at least $350 in a private sale, if you continue to be unhappy with it. I've seen used Berettas for not a lot more than that.

As the others have suggested, don't go there.

(And if I were you, I'd question the ethics of the guy offering the trade -- looks to me like he's really trying to RIP YOU OFF. I can understand a gun shop needing to make a profit, but that is bordering on armed robbery.)

Yeah thanks guys, that helped me make up my mind!!!I'll keep them both.....good to able to bounce these things off someone....THR rules!

With a buddy like that you don't need any enemies. I think his loyalty goes to the job and you have become the target.
Keep your Taurus as it will shoot right along side the Beretta and like the others have said you will just be throwing away the Glock.
BTW look for a new buddy.

Yeah, he is a buddy from a long time ago....he has a thing against Taurus and is WAY into the "brand-name" thing.......I'm not sure what the hell I was thinking........I'll keep my guns...thanks:cool:

Wow, I am surprised that he could have said all that to you with a straight face. That guy wanted to be a theif, I would steer clear for sure.

Don't trade!

I sold my Beretta and bought a Taurus 92, the extra $$ went for 2 hicap mags. That tells you something,.... and losing a Glock for a beretta?!! That's indeed laughable!:D

I know you're mind's made up but just thought I'd add that I owned a Beretta before I got my Taurus PT99 and as much as I'd like to say the Berettas are infinitely superior to the Taurus junk, I cannot. I've put thousands and thousands of rounds through my Taurus and have never had anything die yet.

Don't get me wrong... I have nothing against Beretta pistols or the company and I'd like to get an Elite or one of the other 'cooler' Berettas. But other than machine finishing, I just don't see how the Berettas are better than the Taurus in any way.

Just came back in from shooting the Tuarus......I'll never sell this puppy...I shoot it great and it's 100% reliable......thanks for helping to make up my mind folks...

I really like the 92fs, but the trade you mention just doesn't seem equitable. Can't you just buy the Beretta out-right & add to your collection? The trade seems a little one-sided. Keep what you've got, esp. since you shoot that Taurus well ;)

Yeah I MAY try to save up....but there soooo many guns I want.....I could probably trade the Glock and some $ for the Beretta....but for now I'll just chill.......I've made quick trades in the past and regreted it....now I wait to see if the feeling passes.....it usually does....

The Beretta is one of the most overated pistols in history.

They OK but they also have their share of problems.

I do not know of anyone that carries one for really serious business if they are not required to do so.

Some advice. . . know more people.

Trade glock for Beretta?

Why on earth...? My 17 shoots much nicer than my 99/92s ever did. I say ditch the Taurus and put the money into the 17 to make it even better (though it is hard to beat perfection) ;)

I wouldn't trade both for a Beretta. I WOULD trade him your Glock 17 OR Taurus for the Beretta though. Just not both.

Apparently I forgot this whole thread.....I traded my Taurus a while ago...and I miss it!I traded it for a revolver that I couldn't hit a thing with.Funny though, thing come full circle,I 'm looking at another Taurus(mellenium)this weekend.I still have the Glock though...but once I get the "fever" you never know what stupid thing I'll do...:banghead:
