Thinking of a different hobby

At times the wind at my shifts direction with every gust can be a pain but just learn a lot. I did however find a spot, almost 2 hours away, that I was able to shoot into the wind. My first time at 550 yds either a 223 rem and 50 gr reloads. Don't get to shoot there often though.

Shooting in the wind is a good skill to master, however there comes a point where there is no point.

I remember a CMP match I was at several years ago, typical Missouri weather....it blows.....and that day was 30-35, with gusts over 45, it was pointless, you fought it just standing still against that wind let alone trying to shoot, and the bullet fought it as well.

Lowest scores ever.

Try ham radio. You meet lots of different people and talk about not having any hobbies.
- - ... ...- -

I have known a couple of what I call hamm-er-heads. I always wondered if they look at us gun nutz, or how car nutz look at coin collectors, or how.....

And think that group of people are just a half a bubble off plumb.....Me I know my bubble is all the way to the end.

The aid plays Hobbs with clay targets and the shot cloud also. Seems the bird does a climb, dip, or dodge about the time I'm slapping the trigger.

Thanks for all the suggestions but has a draw back. No indoor ranges within a 100 miles, no water except for a pooty little lake in the city park, no trap or skeet range, can't change the range's direction so I'm sorta stuck. As to benefitting you physically have you ever flown a really large kite? I haven't but was acquainted with a guy that did. It takes some muscles and endurance and if the wind get up you need something really anchored to tie it to because YOU can't handle it. It's either tie it to something or turn it loose and let it go.

your post makes me want to go fly kites. i have a stunt kite (5 footer) that pulls quite a bit in strong wind and i have had to let go of one strap once so as not to be pulled off balance. my go to activity apart from shooting is biking. no cost once you bought the bike , clothes and helmet. i still won't bike when it is too windy but if it's just regular windy then i convince myself it is for exercise.

i sometimes go shooting not expecting the wind to be too much and then be surprised how hard it's blowing or if it's a new gun, just not really caring how windy it could be. i was watching to see if the wind would blow the pistol off the table.

I haven't done a trebuchet but did build a small catapult several years ago. The design I used was off somewhat and it just chunked rocks out and mostly down. No range at all. I modified it to where it could get some distance and my # 2 great grand daughter gets it out once in awhile. She prefers shooting guns now though. Smart kid.

You can always take up skydiving....

I have different hobbies but everyone frowns if I play golf and shoot the balls, kinda ruins their flight time and makes a mess of the putting green, so I took up fishing, suckers still swim with a hole in them. Just shoot at your leisure and bs with your buddies.

I grew up on a small farm near Notrees, Texas. Until I went to college I assumed the bottom level for wind was 30 mph every day and that the air was supposed to be brown and taste crunchy.

Notrees. :D That's just a hop, skip, and long jump south and a little east of where I am. The conditions you describe are just that here. It's grassland all the way to the Pecos River and all I see is brown except for the scrub mesquites. The name of this place should be Tumbleweed this year.

Advertise locally that you will teach safe firearms handling. Teach the basics in one class and advanced in another. Doesn’t use any ammo and can make you some ammo money while you are at it. You don’t have to charge mucha d it would be a terrific community service. Run a ladies class and kids too.
